Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures is an MMORPG set in the same universe as the popular "Conan" movies and books.
This game should not be confused with two other games named "Conan" one released in 2007 and another released in 2004.

Races
Races influence your character's appearance. More importantly, your race will also limit your choices in class selection. All of these groups are human, but they come from different areas of Hyboria.
Classes
The classes are divided into four archetype sets with three classes per archetype.
Like most role-playing games, each class fulfills different roles in a group. These roles include dealing damage (also known as DPS), healing, and protecting teammates by absorbing damage (tanks). Characters can also cast spells that help the group (buffs) or hinder enemies (debuffs).
Soliders
- Guardian - tanks, able to absorb huge amounts of damage and keep fighting.
- Conqueror - tank/dps, able to absorb damage, but also able to deal a large about of damage to the enemy.
- Dark Templar - a magic-using tank, they use crowd control and debuffs to minimize damage.
Mages
- Demonologist - deals ranged magic damage
- Necromancer - creates undead minions and uses damage over time spells
- Herald of Xotli - uses weapons and magic to deal damage
Priests
- Bear Shaman - uses magic to deal damage, absorb damage and heal (a hybrid DPS/tank/healer). Only Cimmerians can become a Bear Shaman.
- Priest of Mitra - a very effective healer, and can also use crowd control and debuffs. Only Aquilonians can become a Priest of Mitra.
- Tempest of Set - both heals and does damage. Only Stygians can become a Tempest of Set.
Rogues
- Barbarian - a melee DPS
- Assassin - melee damage dealer with high burst damage and mobility.
- Ranger - ranged weapon DPS
Professions
Crafting
Crafting professions can be gained at level 40.
Gathering
Gathering professions can be learned at level 20.
