Meet Bad Company
Meet B Company
Welcome to the 222nd Army battalion, B-company. This is where the Army rakes together all the insubordinates, hellraisers and troublemakers that won’t fit in any other unit. When the Rangers and Deltas are too expensive to waste, these guys are the first ones in.
They’re called “Bad Company”; a mismatched bunch of rejects selected to serve their country as cannon fodder. This isn’t the kind of outfit a lot of soldiers would join voluntarily. Getting transferred to “the B” is a punishment and a way for the generals to put all their rotten eggs in one basket.
No one starts out in Bad Company. But for some, this is where they end up.

You know, when I grew up all I ever wanted to be was a soldier. Runs in the family, I guess. My dad was in Vietnam. My grandfather fought the Nazis. Me, I just couldn’t wait to get out there and fight for truth, justice and the American way.
The reality of life in the Army didn’t really hit me until they shipped us to Europe. And as it turned out, war can be pretty boring. At least when you’re stuck at a base in the middle of nowhere waiting for orders. I had to do something to distract myself, right? And if I had landed that chopper just a few yards to the left nobody would even have noticed…
Haggard
Hey, Haggard here.
Don’t let the rugged handsome looks fool ya. I’m just your average, normal G.I., really. I’m a great peoples person. And when they say that folk tend to get killed around me, that’s just not true. Well, I mean… we’re at war, you know.
So shit happens, I guess. What else? I enjoy fine food, especially beer and beef jerky. Also, I like blowing stuff up. Back home everyone was kinda giving me a hard time about that, but in the Army they actually want you to blow stuff up, so I fit right in.

I don’t mind telling you that all this soldiering crap really freaks me out. I’m not cut out for this. An army tour seemed like an easy way to get the scholarship I needed. But with my skills and knowledge I figured I wouldn’t have to do any actual fighting.
Turns out I figured wrong. Cause here I am – in Bad Company. And, boy, did they get that name right! In fact, the company is so bad that sometimes I think I’m more likely to get killed by my own squad than by the enemy. That kinda sucks. But still, we do get some good toys. Did you see that new laser designator? Pretty cool, eh? OK, looking back, that thing with the Officers’ latrine and the Claymores was maybe a mistake. But, still, it blew up real nice!

They tell me I’m the first soldier ever to be transferred to Bad Company on my own request. Doesn’t surprise me. This outfit has the highest mortality rate in the Army. We’re just target practice for the enemy, really.
Believe me, I know I’m playing against the odds. But if the deal I made can get me out of this damned war, then it’s worth the risk.
You know, I used to love the Army. I was proud to serve my country. Not any more. A couple of weeks more, and I’m out of here. The only things I’m planning to fight then are marlin and bluefin tuna.
