Pistols
Pistols are your backup weapons. They aren't very powerful or as effective as rifles but they'll help when you need to finish off an oppenant or when you want a challenge in CS:S. In most servers it's common at the start of every new match that it will be a pistol round and the first to third rounds you will likely be using either a pistol or a sub machine gun or in some circumstances a rifle, depending on how well you perform. In every round, re-spawning players or newly joined players start with a default pistol for both teams. While they are not useful as primary weapons and strictly should be used as backups it's often good practice to pull out a pistol when your primary runs out of ammo, retreat, reload and continue the fight, this would mean you can still attack other players while retreating to cover to reload and then move back and attack.

Default Handgun for the Terrorists. The 9x19mm or Glock as it's called by many of the players in Counter Strike is perhaps labelled the second worst handgun in the game. It's fairly weak with the only upside being the accuracy and the large 20 round magazine. The Glock Handgun fires in two different modes, Semi-Automatic and Burst Mode. Semi-Automatic is single shots while Burst mode allows the weapon to fire in 3x round bursts. It takes a relatively large amount of bullets to put down a player with body armor and unlike most guns, this weapon will not kill an armored player with a single head shot, you'll need at least three or four bullets to do that. The Glock can be fired in Semi-Automatic mode rather quickly, depends on how quick you can tap the mouse button, changing to Burst mode is still fast but there's a delay between bursts and is actually slower when doing "rapid taps" on the mouse button. There's barely any noticeable recoil on the gun and is fairly cheap but not many people like the gun due to it's low power. A term known as "Glocking" where a player will equip nothing but a Glock Handgun and some Armor is defiantly a challenge in it's own right, as kills with a Glock especially many kills with the Glock will merit some cheers from other players and is defiantly a sign to show off weapon skills.
