Escape from the Prison
In the Prison
Oblivion, like other Elder Scroll series games, begins within the confines of a jail cell. This is the beginning of the tutorial segment of the game. It is here where you create a character and learn the basic game features.
After you begin to acquaint yourself with your surroundings, you will notice a prisoner in the cell opposite yours. After he finishes rudely speaking to you, Emperor Septim and three guards, called Blades, enter your cell. The emperor recognizes you from his dream, and then explains that he is being lead through a secret escape route. After pardoning you from your crimes, you are allowed to follow Emperor Septim and his Blades for a while.
Alternate Passage
Eventually the emperor's Blades force you to stay behind and find another way out of the prison. As you begin to search for different route, rats knock down a portion of the wall and begin to attack you. Kill them, and walk through the hole to find a lost cavern. Traveling through the cavern, you will kill rats, zombies, and goblins while enhancing your general skills at the game.
Reuniting with the Emperor
After passing the cave, you reunite with Emperor Septim and the Blades. The Blades are reluctant to let you join along side with them, but Emperor Septim demands that you be allowed to follow.
Emperor's Last Request
Assassins will surround you and the emperor. During this time, Empror Septim gives you the Aumulet of Kings. He tells you to take it to Jauffre, as he will know where to find the emperor's son. At this time, speak to Baurus and choose your class. Baurus will give you his key in order to exit the Sewer.
Deliver the Amulet
The Trip to Weynon Priory
After exiting the sewers, it is now time to deliver the Amulet of Kings to Jauffre at Weynon Priory. By opening your world map and clicking on Weynon Priory, you will quick travel to that destination.
Arrival at the Priory
The monks here will inform you that Jauffre is upstairs at his desk. Hand Jauffre the amulet and complete the quest.
Find the Heir
Arriving at Kvatch
The city of Kvatch is in shambles. It had been overrun by daedra the night before and the remaining guards are valiantly fighting back the creatures at the Oblivion gate in. One of these guards is Savlian Matius. In the Chapel of Akatosh, you will find Martin Septim along with some of the remaining survivors. Martin refuses to leave with you. He cannot abandon the survivors. Tell Savlian Matius that you want to help. He will give you your next quest: Breaking the Siege of Kvatch. This quest will require that you pass into Oblivion and destroy the Oblivion Gate in order to save Martin and the other survivors.
Weynon Priory
Red Robed Agents
After the destruction of the Oblivion Gate, it is now time to take Martin to Weynon Priory. Upon arrival, you will be informed that the Mythic Dawn Agents are attacking and you must fight off these assassins.
Cloud Ruler Temple
Jauffre is worried that the Amulet of Kings is what brought the Mythic Dawn to Weynon Priory. As he suspected, the amulet has been taken, and must be recovered. Jauffre now advises taking Martin to Cloud Ruler Temple, a Blade refuge located northwest of Bruma. After Martin Septim explains to you the importance of recovering the Amulet of the Kings, Jauffre will offer you membership into the Blades. With your membership comes an Akaviri Katana. You will also gain access to the armor, weapons, and beds within the temple.
The Path of Dawn
Remember Baurus?
As Jauffre explains, it is now time to track down the Mythic Dawn and locate the Amulet of Kings. He will point you in the direction of Baurus, who is at Luther Broad's Boarding House in the Elven Gardens District of the Imperial City. Inside Luther Broad’s you’ll find Baurus drinking. Near him is Astav, an assassin acting as an irritable old man. When you speak to Baurus, you learn that he has been gathering intelligence, and is now being trailed. He then leads you to the basement of the store with Astav following closely behind.
Volume One: Astav and Baurus
Astav quickly summons the Mythic Dawn and attempts to assassinate Baurus. The two of you quickly eliminate the attackers and engage Astav. After you’ve killed him, check his body for a book entitled Mythic Dawn Commentaries. When you show it to Baurus, he will have you speak to Tar-Meena, an expert of Daedric Cults. She is located at the Arcane University.
Volume Two: Arcane University
Travel to the Arcane University, located in the southeastern end of the Imperial City. Speak to Tar-Meena about the Mythic Dawn, and their leader Mankar Camoran. She will instruct you to complete set of the Mythic Dawn Commentaries to unlock the location of their headquarters. She will then provide you with volume two, shortening your work to only locating volumes three and four.
Volume Three: First Edition
Phintias, the owner of a first editions bookshop in the Market District, has some information about the last two volumes. When inquiring about the Mysterium Xarxes, Phintias explains that volumes three and four are nearly impossible to find. He does, however, have a copy of volume three reserved by another customer named Gwinas.
The easiest way of acquiring the third book is by explaining to Gwinas that the Mythic Dawn were behind the murdering of the emperor. At this point he will give you the book and a note about a meeting he has scheduled with the Mythic Dawn.
Another way of attaining the book is by following Gwinas back to his hotel and killing him, taking both the note and book from his body.
Volume Four can only be obtained from a member of the Mythic Dawn. Gwinas has arranged a meeting with his Sponsor to acquire the fourth volume. You must go to the meeting in the place of Gwinas, and deceive the Mythic Dawn.
Volume Four: The Sewers
Before attending the meeting, meet with Baurus back at the Boarding House and inform him with what you have found so far.
You will now begin to accompany Baurus through the Elven Garden Sewers. At the meeting point, Baurus tells you to cover him. Get to the vantage point overlooking walkway. The Sponsor will enter and speak to Baurus. When the cultists enter, prepare yourself for a fight. Either they will recognize Baurus and attack, or they will see you and attack.
After you defeat everyone, loot volume four off of the Sponsor along with a Sunken Sewers Key. There are many chests worth exploring in the Mythic Dawn room as well. Including one boss level chest that may or may not contain an enchanted item.
Cracking the Code
By examining the large red letters that begin each of the paragraphs in the book you will notice the code. Place the red letters in order to spell: “GREEN EMPEROR WAY WHERE TOWER TOUCHES MIDDAY SUN”
Green Emperor Way is located in the middle of Imperial City, within the Palace District. At noon, go to the Tomb of Prince Camarril. You will notice glowing red runes that show the location of the Mythic Dawn's shrine. Activate the tomb.
Dagon Shrine
Travel to Shrine
At last you have discovered the location of Mythic Dawn's secret shrine to Mehrunes Dagon. It is tucked away at Lake Arrius Caverns and unlike the first two locations you travel to, you cannot quick travel to Lake Arrius unless you have visted there before.
Gaining Entry
The Doorkeeper tells you to speak with Harrow, the Warden of the Shrine of Dagon. Harrow will ask for all of your possessions and hand you an Initiate's robe. Once you put your robe on, you can then follow Harrow into the Shrine.
The Ritual
There are three options here, largely dictated by whether or not you turned over your equipment when you entered the shrine.
Harrow guides you to a ceremony being led by Mankar Camoran, the Altmer leader of the Mythic Dawn. After a short speech, Camoran vanishes into a magical portal and, regrettably, the Amulet of Kings goes with him. A quest message informs you that Mysterium Xarxes is your new target. You are now introduced to Ruma Camoran, Mankar's daughter. Since you are a new Initiate, it is your task to perform a ritual sacrifice of Jeelius, an argonian priest. At this point you may make the decision to carry on with the sacrifice or refuse it.
Refusal
Upon refusal, the cultists will immediately attack you. Because you forfeited your equipment earlier in this mission, the weaponless battle against many foes is difficult.
Kill Jeelius
If you kill Jeelius, you can wait until the area settles down and then proceed with stealing the book. After the dialogue, wait one hour. This will allow for the whole room to empty with the exception to Harrow, Ruma Camoran, and one guard.
Return to the Temple
Return the Mysterium Xarxes to Martin at Cloud Ruler. Martin feels that it may hold the key to opening a portal, but he requires some time to study it. From this point on, Mythic Dawn agents will attack you on sight. Also, many more Oblivion Gates will begin opening.
Spies
Investigate Spies
After you have given the Mysterium Xarxes to Martin, find Jauffre and ask him about spies. During the last few nights, Gate Guards have seen suspicious people wandering the road near the temple. When you speak to Captain Steffan, he informs you that the spies have been seen near the Runestone in the early night.
The Hestra Rune Stone will give to you a mace and gauntlets. At Bruma, Captain Burd is located within the castle's Great Hall or barracks. What we learn from Captain Burd is that he has seen no strangers, however, Jearl has recently returned from a trip.
Go into Jearl’s house. You will need to lock pick the door in order to get in. Immediately following your entry into the house, Jearl and his associate will attack you. Kill them and search their bodies. You will find a key to the basement below you. There you will find a scroll containing the Mythic Dawn’s plans. Take this scroll to Jauffre. Also, check in on Martin’s progress with the Mysterium Xarxes.
Blood of the Daedra
What Martin has learned about the Mysterium Xarxes is that, with it, he can conduct a ritual to open a portal to the Camoran’s Paradise. That is the location of Manker Camoran and the Amulet of the Kings. There are four items required to perform this ritual, but only one has been identified: The blood of a Daedra Lord, which Martin says, refers to a Daedra Artifact.
Martin’s copy of “Modern Heretics” will help you locate a Daedra Artifact. After searching the book for information, the Shrine of Azura is marked on your map. Once you have acquired a Daedra Artifact, return it to Martin.
Bruma Gate
Martin asks you to speak to Jauffre. Apparently another Oblivion Gate has opened in Bruma, and the Countess has asked for the Blades help. Since you are the only person who has closed a gate, your expertise is needed.
You are accompanied with the guards and Captain Burd into Oblivion. The Fury Spike is the main tower. Head through the Rending Halls, past the Corridors of Dark Salvation, and into the Sigil Stone Chamber. Close the gate.
At the end of this quest, Captain Burd informs you that he and his guards will do their best to close any new gates that may open in the area of Bruma.
Blood of the Devines
Martin has discovered that the blood of Tiber Septim is the second item needed to open Mankar Camoran’s realm. The objective of this quest is to obtain Tiber Septim’s armor, which may be marked with the first emperor’s blood. The armor is located in the catacombs beneath the ruins of Sancre Tor. Jauffre will give you the key needed for entry past the outer door.
Once inside the catacombs, you will need to find four skeletons. They are the four Blades guards. Your compass displays each skeleton's location. In order to free the soul of each skeleton, you must kill them. After killing the fourth skeleton, his ghost will lead you to Tiber Septim’s shrine. The cursed barrier guarding the grave will be lifted, and you can take the armor.
Miscarcand
Martin has discovered that the third item needed for the ritual is the Great Welkynd Stone. It is within the Ayleid Ruins of Miscarand that are known to possess such an artifact.
One of your first headaches in this zone is caused by a false wall right after the main entrance. Your map displays a hallway extending past it, but you can ignore that for now.
The button used to activate the gate near Sel Vanua is located in the westernmost room. Once you have reached Sel Vanua you must locate two buttons. The first one you reach is in a large room in the northeast corner. This button raises the cage covering a magical stone that recharges your enchanted weapons and armor. The second button is used to open the gate to the next section, Morimath. This button is located in the southern hallway.
The best strategy for Morimath is to stick to the high ground. Once you reach the Great Welkynd Stone, walls will be lowered and the Great Miscarcand King is freed. Kill him and take the Miscarcand Key. Follow the hidden hallway where he came from and you will find a locked gate. Your newly found key will unlock the gate and allow access to the first section and the entrance door.
Allies for Bruma
Upon eliminating the spies in Bruma, the Countess will speak to about the Defense of Bruma. The Mythic Dawn is launching a full scale-attack on Bruma and like many others, Jauffre is worried that the local Guard is incapable of defending the city. You must seek allies from the Imperial City and other large cities to help defend Bruma from the largest attack it has ever known.
It is now time to round up the allies:
Chorrol
Cheydinhal
Leyawiin
Bravil
Skingrad
Kvatch
Anvil
The Imperial City
The Defense of Bruma
When you take the Welkynd Stone back to Martin, you see that he and Jauffre are in the midst of a grim conversation. Apparently the fourth item needed is the Great Sigil Stone and the only way to obtain this is by allowing the creation of a Great Oblivion Gate. What this means is that you must allow the Mythic Dawn to continue their planned attack on Bruma.
The Countess of Bruma will need some convincing before allowing an attack on her city to take place. After you speak to her, however, she will agree and meet with Martin in the Chapel of Talos. When you are ready for battle, speak to the Countess. She will offer you a choice to gather allies (if you have not already done so) or to begin your task in obtaining the Sigil Stone. If you are ready for the battle, follow Martin to the battlefield.
When three Oblivion Gates have opened, the Mythic Dawn will summon the Great Oblivion Gate. When this happens, enter the Great Oblivion Gate. You now have fifteen minutes to complete the quest. You will notice that the Daedric Siege Engine is making its way towards the portal. If it reaches the exit before you have the Sigil Stone, you fail.
The closest guard tower is marked by the red arrow. Enter the tower and make your way to the top. Like other Oblivion Towers, this one functions with ascending platforms and levers. Once you have entered the main room in the World Breaker (main tower) you will want to go up past the Vaults of End Times, back into the World Breaker, to the locked door at Sigillum Sanguis. Unlock the door and take the Sigil Stone.
Give the Stone to Martin and follow him back to Cloud Ruler Temple. Now he will put the four items together and open the portal to Paradise.
Paradise
Since the portal is a one way door, before entering, make sure you have all the necessary equipment for a lengthy battle with Mankar Camoran.
Follow the stone path while listening to Mankar Camoran’s monologue. You will learn that this place may also be refereed to as Gaiar Alata by locals who inform you that they are indeed trapped in this ‘beautiful hell’. Pass through the Savage Garden into the Flooded Grotto.
You will meet a Dremora named Kathutet who offers his help in getting you into the Forbidden Grottos. What you must do in return is free a Xivilai that the Mythic Dawn immortals trapped. Kathutet also explains to you that you cannot leave the Savage Garden unless you are wearing the Bands of the Chosen, which he will give to you if you help him.
Travel in the direction of the Lair of Anaxes and you will find Xivilai trapped behind a boulder. Move the logs holding the boulder in place and he will be free. Return to Kathutet, receive your Bands of the Chosen, and enter the Forbidden Grotto.
While making your way through the Terrace of the Dawn you meet a High Elf named Eldamil. You learn that he once served Mankar Camoran, but since coming to Gairar Alata, he has grown to understand the evil behind Camoran’s ‘paradise.’ He explains to you that while wearing the Bands of the Chosen, you cannot leave the caves, and offers to help remove them.
At this point you will accept his offer and pretend to be his prisoner. After passing an inspection from his Dremora overseer, you will climb into a cage and be lowered toward lava. When you are raised back up, escape through the back of the cage and head south. Eldamil will remove the Bands.
Follow the caves until you eventually make your way back to Paradise. Mankar Camaron’s palace is located at the top of the path. You will find him sitting on his throne. After a speech, the battle will commence. Paradise dissolves around you, giving you only a few moments to loot some nicely leveled items off of Mankar’s body. Give the Amulet of Kings to Martin. The next step is to travel back to Imperial City and make Martin the official Emperor.
Light the Dragonfires
At the moment Martin is to be introduced as Emperor to Chancellor Ocato, a guard will announce that the city is under attack. At this point, you must lead Martin safely to the Temple of the One. Mehrunes Dagon will also be attacking people. Once inside the temple, go towards the green arrow on your compass. This is where Martin gives his final speech and the end game cinema begins.
Imperial Dragon Armor
For your services, the Chancellor has ordered that a suit of Imperial Dragon armor be forged for you. In two weeks it will be ready in the Imperial Legion Compound, at the armory.
