Part 1

Micaiah

Starting Level - 01

Starting Class - Light Mage

Promotions - Light Sage & Light Priestess

Recruitable - Part 1: Prologue

Micaiach is one of your main characters and you cannot let her die. She will never be a heavy hitter or be able to take that much damage so keep her behind the other tank characters. She makes for excellent back up though. Teamed with another not-so-tough character, like Edward, the two can weak some havoc. Micaiah's strength is in weakening an enemy for someone else to finish off, or an enemy has already been weakened, Micaiah can clean up the rest. You'll be using her through most of the game so you better learn to like and use her in this fashion cause you're stuck with her.

Edward

Starting Level - 04

Starting Class - Myrmidon

Promotions - Swordmaster & Trueblade

Recruitable - Part 1: Prologue

Edward makes a great counterpart to Micaiah or any other low damage dealing character. He is great at finishing off an already weakened character but be careful not to put him into harms way as he cannot take that many hits. As weak as he is at the start of the game, he is handy to keep around and only gets better with experience.

Leonardo

Starting Level - 04

Starting Class - Archer

Promotions - Sniper & Marksman

Recruitable - Part 1: Prologue

Leonardo is the first archer you receive so by default you will be using him. His attacks are extremely weak and can miss quite frequently making him a poor support character. The only thing he is good at is taking down DracoKnights. When you reach the point of having the option to switch out characters for battles, Leonardo is probably the most replaceable character.

Nolan

Starting Level - 09

Starting Class - Fighter

Promotions - Warrior & Reaver

Recruitable - Part 1: Chapter 1

Nolan comes in as your first stronger character. He can deal a good portion of damage up close as well as from afar and can take a few hits. He is by no means a "tank" but more so then the other early characters. Nolan is a wise choice to beef up. He will always be handy in a fight and should be one of your constant team players.

Laura

Starting Level - 01

Starting Class - Priest

Promotions - Bishop & Saint

Recruitable - Part 1: Chapter 2

Laura will be your first healer to join your party. She is extremely usefull but needs to be constantly protected, generally she can be taken out in one hit. Buy Laura the Mend Wand as soon as possible so she can heal more damage. She has low movement to be mindful of how far she can move before leaving her in the dust.

Sothe

Starting Level - 01

Starting Class - Rogue

Promotions - Whisper

Recruitable - Part 1: Chapter 2

Sothe is like Micaiah's bodyguard and brother so he is pretty much manditory through out Micaiah's campaigns. Luckily, he's a great character. He has a high movement rate and a great double-attack that can kill most enemies in a single round. Keep him and Micaiah near each other for support bonuses too. Also be sure to keep his level up as he is a main character and you are forced to use him a lot, why not make him awesome? Sothe is a great character and should be where you focus all your thieving experience.

Ilyana

Starting Level - 12

Starting Class - Thunder Mage

Promotions - Thunder Sage & Arch Sage

Recruitable - Part 1: Chapter 3

Ilyana can deal a fair amount of damage but needs to be looked after constantly. She should be kept alive however due to the lack of damage dealing mages at the start of the game. She is a good support character if you can keep her alive.

Aran

Starting Level - 07

Starting Class - Soldier

Promotions - Halberdier & Sentinel

Recruitable - Part 1: Chapter 3

Have Laura speak to Aran to recruit him into your party. Aran will be your much needed tank character early on in the game. While he does miss a lot up front, he will grow to become a valuable asset if you stick with him.

Meg

Starting Level - 03

Starting Class - Sword Knight

Promotions - Sword General & Marshall

Recruitable - Part 1: Chapter 4

While Meg looks to be a force to be reckoned with, she is anything but. All that armor she is wearing must be made of paper because she cannot take any damage. Being that she needs to be up close and personal Meg is not a well-balanced character to start off with. She can be groomed to become a good character but it takes a lot of time and experience that would be better spent on other characters.

Volug

Starting Level - 15

Starting Class - Wolf

Promotions - None

Recruitable - Part 1: Chapter 5

Volug will be your savior when you first recruit him. He can move, deal descent damage and take some hits. However doesn't grow that much with experience. Use him to bail you out of tough spots and rescuing endangered characters, but try to keep his combat to a bare minimum. That experience would be better served to other characters.

Tauroneo

Starting Level - 14

Starting Class - Lance General

Promotions - Marshall

Recruitable - Part 1: Chapter 6, Stage 1

Tauroneo may be a cursed disguised as a blessing. He will be your first true super tank character which makes you want to just run through the map clearing all that stand in your way with him. His biggest flaw is his lack of game time. As Micaiah's missions progress you won't actually be able to select him a lot of the time. Therefore, giving him experience is almost a waste. You will actually get to spend more time with other tank characters like Brom. When you are able to use Tauroneo, it might prove more advantageous to ditch his weapons and simply let him take hits for the other teammates as they get the experience points.

Jill

Starting Level - 14

Starting Class - DragonKnight

Promotions - DragonMaster & DragonLord

Recruitable - Part 1: Chapter 6, Stage 1

Jill will prove to be a fantastic addition to Micaiah's team. She can take some hits to protect other weaker team members as well as deal some damage. Put some time into getting her some experience points and she can become one of the best and most useful characters in your party.

Zihark

Starting Level - 03

Starting Class - SwordMaster

Promotions - TrueBlade

Recruitable - Part 1: Chapter 6, Stage 1

When Zihark comes in he will dwarf Edward with levels. Your choice here can be a bit personal as to which you want to be your sword wielding character in the end. There is still plenty of room for Zihark to gain experience whereas Edward will have so gain a lot more. Zihark would probably be the better choice. He is also playable in Ike's some of Ike's mission which gives him that much more of a lead on Edward.

Fiona

Starting Level - 09

Starting Class - Lance Knight

Promotions - Lance Paladin & Silver Knight

Recruitable - Part 1: Chapter 7

Fiona is one of those characters that isn't worth giving experience points to, as you will meet better Paladin's down the line. Use her to heal your war-wounded soldiers but be ready to never use later on in the game.

Tormod

Starting Level - 05

Starting Class - Fire Sage

Promotions - Arch Sage

Recruitable - Part 1: Chapter 7

Tormod enters the game and gets you really excited to have a descent mage on your side, but then quickly disappears only to be playable at the very end of the game. At which point he will be out-leveled by such a margin he isn't worth using. Use him sparingly to get your out of a tight spot but don't waste too many experience points on him.

Muarim

Starting Level - 19

Starting Class - Tiger

Recruitable - Part 1: Chapter 7

Again, here's another case of a character that comes in and out does everyone, only to disappear until the very end where he will be under leveled. He basically kills anything he attacks or is attacked by so really he is simply an experience thief for the other characters. Use him sparingly to not at all.

Vika

Starting Level - 13

Starting Class - Raven

Recruitable - Part 1: Chapter 7

Once again, you get a supped up character that will only take away experience from your core group. She won't return until the end of the game by which time she will be nearly obsolete. Don't waste experience points on Vika.

Nailah

Starting Level - 33

Starting Class - Wolf

Recruitable - Part 1: Chapter 8

While Nailah isn't in that much of the game, she can definitely throw down when she is reintroduced near the end of the game. Nailah is a fantastic character with amazing stats and well deserving of any starting lineup.

Rafiel

Starting Level - 12

Starting Class - Heron

Recruitable - Part 1: Chapter 8

Rafiel's biggest draw back is his movement range. The other members of your party can easily leave him behind without breaking a sweet. However, unlike other Heron characters he can revive four adjacent characters in his human form, which makes him a valuable asset. Exploit this ability to the max and your can have four team members attacking and moving twice a turn. Just be sure to not let any enemies near him, as he cannot take any damage basically.

Part 2

Elincia

Starting Level - 01

Starting Class - Queen

Recruitable - Part 2: Prologue

Elincia is great because she can heal, fight and has a high amount of movement. She does have low HP to start with but dodges a lot of attacks. Really make use of her movement and healing ability to keep your troops healthy.

Marcia

Starting Level - 05

Starting Class - Falcon Knight

Promotions = Seraph Knight

Recruitable - Part 2: Prologue

Marcia is a fantastic character and being a mounted flying unit is a huge plus as well. You can level her up and she will become an impressive character for you, her biggest flaw however is she will disappear until part 4 when you need your super characters the most. Granted, if you put the time and energy into in part 2 and are willing to put in more time near the again, she will not let you down. However, Elincia will do a lot of the same things for you but with a few bonuses Marcia doesn't have. You won't be going wrong with Marcia; she just isn't around that much for you though.

Nealuchi

Starting Level - 22

Starting Class - Raven

Recruitable - Part 2: Prologue

Nealuchi is fantastic when he joins you. He can dodge most attacks and can deal some good damage. He will quickly be out-matched by many other characters though. Use him to help out your weaker characters as they grow but don't let him steal that many experience points from they either.

Leanne

Starting Level - 05

Starting Class - Heron

Recruitable - Part 2: Prologue

Leanne is probably the least effective of Heron characters. Use her in Part 2 but ditch her as soon as you have the choice between the other Herons.

Haar

Starting Level - 11

Starting Class - DragonLord

Promotions - DragonMaster

Recruitable - Part 2: Prologue

There's not much to say about Haar other than he is one of the game's best characters. He can deal and take damage like a tank but has the ability to move back and forth across the map with great ease. He will be playable to your over a large portion of the game which makes him easy to level up. Haar will prove himself a powerful character over and over again. Use him and love him.

Brom

Starting Level - 02

Starting Class - Axe General

Promotions - Marshall

Recruitable - Part 2: Chapter 1

Brom is an excellent tank character. Just plop him in the middle of a pathway and watch the enemies bounce off him. He wields axes, which makes him great for thinning out the enemy lances. Brom is used for a good portion of the game so choosing him as your go to tank character is a wide choice. Brom is not likely to let you down in the end.

Nephenee

Starting Level - 01

Starting Class - Halberdier

Promotions - Sentinel

Recruitable - Part 2: Chapter 1

Nephenee is a great counterpart to Brom. Wielding lances she can attack at range as well as up close and has the speed to attack twice most of the time. For a mounted unit, her stats are a bit low but she more than makes up for it. Honestly Nephenee can tank with the best of them. She gets a fair amount of game time, which makes it easy to level her up and a prime candidate for the end of the game.

Heather

Starting Level - 07

Starting Class - Rogue

Promotions - Whisper

Recruitable - Part 2: Chapter 1

Heather is really the only other thief character aside from Sothe. Being that Sothe is the one of the main characters you should be able to foresee her lack of use in the end. Heather runs the high risk of dying just about anytime she is hit. Use her to steal from enemies and that's about it.

Lucia

Starting Level - 14

Starting Class - SwordMaster

Promotions - TrueBlade

Recruitable - Part 2: Chapter 2

Lucia falls victim to the lack of game time. She will step in as a heavy hitter, but will disappear and then be out ranked when she returns. Don't get that attached to her.

Lethe

Starting Level - 21

Starting Class - Cat

Recruitable - Part 2: Chapter 2

Lethe is a pretty useless unit. It takes forever for her to transform and then she'll revert so quickly that it was hardly worth the effort anyway. She doesn't have that much game time and by the end she will be a kitten compared to the other Laguz you have to choose from. Bench her or keep her in the back to avoid taking any experience points from others.

Mordecai

Starting Level - 16

Starting Class - Tiger

Recruitable - Part 2: Chapter 2

Mordecai is somewhat useful in Part 2 of the game. He can act as a pretty solid tank and will stay in Tiger form for a good period of time. Like others though, he will simply be outdone by the other Laguz at the end of the game and isn't worth the time leveling him up.

Geoffrey

Starting Level - 15

Starting Class - Lance Paladin

Promotions - Silver Knight

Recruitable - Part 2: Chapter 3

Geoffrey is a great unit and should be utilized when available. He will be out matched however by his other classmates. The other paladins will ultimately dwarf him in stats. Again, he is a great unit, just not the best of his class. Use him but don't get too attached.

Kieran

Starting Level - 11

Starting Class - Axe Paladin

Promotions - Gold Knight

Recruitable - Part 2: Chapter 3

Kieran is a fantastic axe-wielding paladin. He does a great deal of damage and generally double attacks his foes. You can't really go wrong with Kieran. He is a good choice as a paladin unit.

Astrid

Starting Level - 07

Starting Class - Bow Paladin

Promotions - Silver Knight

Recruitable - Part 2: Chapter 3

Astrid is the most useless Paladin and possibly unit in the game. She can't take hits and she can't double attack enemies. If you have an extra slot it's ok to use her if your simply want to move her unit around aimlessly but really you should just bench her as soon as you get her.

Makalov

Starting Level - 07

Starting Class - Sword Paladin

Promotions - Gold Knight

Recruitable - Part 2: Chapter 3

Makalov lacks real power. He is useful for weakening enemies or finishing off weakened enemies but lack the ability to clean house solo. When he joins, he is already out matched by Geoffrey and Kieran. Makalov can be a good sidekick to someone in need but as the game nears the end while become pretty obsolete.

Danved

Starting Level - 09

Starting Class - Halberdier

Promotions - Sentinel

Recruitable - Part 2: Chapter 3

Danved comes in as a pretty solid all round character. He can take a good amount of damage as well as dish it out. His only flaw is lack of game time. You will get a lot more time with his classmates, which will leave him behind in stats for the end. Use Danved in middle of the game when you have him, but he shouldn't really be thought of as a lasting character for your party.

Calill

Starting Level - 06

Starting Class - Fire Sage

Promotions - Arch Sage

Recruitable - Part 2: Endgame

Calill will come in as an ok mage but takes way too much time and effort to raise her stats for the amount of actual levels you can use her in. She can barely take a hit, which makes it hard to get her within range of most enemies. She does have a Meteor ability that lets her hit targets at long ranges, but it can only be used five times and lacks in the amount of damage it does. Use her to weaken some enemies then you can basically forget about her.

Part 3

Ike

Starting Level - 11

Starting Class - Hero

Promotions - Vanguard

Recruitable - Part 3: Prologue

Ike is everything you could want in a unit. He dodges a lot of attacks but can also take damage when it is dealt to him. He has good movement but most importantly he can deal damage. He will also double attack most turns as well leaving the enemy troops alive only rarely. You will see Ike more and more as the game progresses and he is extremely easy to level up and should be do so. Learn to love Ike, he's our hero.

Soren

Starting Level - 05

Starting Class - Wind Sage

Promotions - Arch Sage

Recruitable - Part 3: Prologue

Give Soren as much action as he can handle to level him up. He can become an extremely reliable mage, which is something you need.

Titania

Starting Level - 16

Starting Class - Axe Paladin

Promotions - Gold Knight

Recruitable - Part 3: Prologue

Titania will enter the game with some good stats. With very little effort however she will become one of the games most powerful and reliable characters. She'll dodge a lot of attacks while still being able to take hits when they are received. Titania will also double attack on most turns and deals out a severe amount of damage. She can act as a one-woman team in a pitch and fend for herself among most enemies. Titania will become one of your most valuable units.

Mist

Starting Level - 01

Starting Class - Cleric

Promotions - Valkyrie

Recruitable - Part 3: Prologue

While at first glance it is exciting to have a healer that can also attack, but in all honesty her attacks are pretty useless. Healers should stick to healing because that is a fulltime job. The other healers from the start outclass Mist; however once she reaches Valkyie class she will become a mounted unit, which can prove useful.

Rhys

Starting Level - 01

Starting Class - Bishop

Promotions - Saint

Recruitable - Part 3: Prologue

For the most part, the healer you choose will be done so out of personal preference. Rhys can get the job done like the others but also has the ability to use some Light Magic spells. Generally a healer doesn't have much time to attack but it can be comforting in a pitch.

Mia

Starting Level - 07

Starting Class - SwordMaster

Promotions - TrueBlade

Recruitable - Part 3: Prologue

Mia comes into the game with decent stats. With work she can become extremely deadly. If you happen to forget about her though she will have a tough time catching up to the likes of Zihark or even Edward. She can gather more experience points via Ike's missions but just be sure she constantly has a slot in your lineup to maximize and grow her as a character.

Gatrie

Starting Level - 07

Starting Class - Lance Paladin

Promotions - Marshall

Recruitable - Part 3: Prologue

Gatrie should become your primary tank unit. Spend time beefing him up and he will become the stuff enemies have nightmares about.
