"Beginners Luck"

When you first open the game have a bit of fun with the controller, when you first start playing that guitar can feel pretty strange.

Use the Tuorials, they help to teach you all the basics of the game but also teah you those important techniques such as "Hammer on's".

REMEMBER...In the Practice mode you can slow down the songs, this will help when learning those solos.

Dont be worried about doing the career on Easy, its a good way to get into the game and gets you used to the songs, even if it only lasts you a day or two its still worth it even if its for the characters.

Having Trouble Playing Easy?

Some people have a very hard time playing this game, especially on Easy mode. Instead of starting on Easy, go for Medium. The key to success in Guitar Hero is to be able to follow along with the music. In Easy mode, the notes you play don't follow along with the song's rhythm, and many notes are often omitted. In medium mode, the game is still fairly hard, but at least the notes you play follow along with the song. Once you play through a song a couple times you will learn the rhythm, making the song much easier to play.

Tips for Beating Boss Battles

  • Never, ever, look at your opponent's guitar notes. You will always be caught off guard and lose the chance at some good attacks.
  • You can download the Boss Battle Pack from the Xbox Live Market Place or Playstation Network for free and practice the battles. Practice makes perfect.
  • Keep your hand over the whammy bar. I find that people have trouble reviving from Whammy attacks when their hand is under the Whammy bar. Every note of the battle can count.
  • Save up several attacks and use them all at once. Most opponents can survive a single attack, but few can play through three attacks at once.Best tactics are to use a "Difficulty up" and then a "Whammy" followed by an "Amp Overload".

Practice and Tutorial

If you're having trouble with the game (getting booed off stage) you might want to try these tips:

  • The tutorial mode does a good job teaching you how to play, and will really improve your performance.
  • Practice mode lets you play without having to worry about getting kicked off stage.
  • If you're using an HDMI cable, check to make sure the timing is correct using the in-game timing adjustment.

Learning to Play Hard/Expert

When you switch from medium to hard you will figure out why there's a fifth orange key. Many people can't play the orange key at first, so don't feel alone. This most important thing to know is that you are supposed to shift your fingers to play this key. You need to teach your fingers to move from GRYB to RYBO. This can be done by playing medium with your hand on RYBO (yes, even though there are no orange to play) and shifting over to GRYB for every green note that appears. You will need to master shifting, hammer-ons, and pull-offs to advance though hard and expert.
