Halo 3 is a first person shooter, and a continuation of Combat Evolved and Halo 2.

Halo 3 set several sales records when it was released (racking up $170 million in sales on its first day of availability, making it the hottest-selling title in video game history). More than one million people played Halo 3 on Xbox Live in the first twenty hours, the biggest gaming day in Live's history.

The Halo story follows the Master Chief, a UNSC Spartan. He is a cyberneticly enhanced super soldier leading the fight to defend Earth from the Covenant; an alliance of alien races. As part of a religious crusade, these aliens are unwittingly attempting to activate doomsday devices that will extinguish all life in the galaxy.

In addition to a story based campaign mode, there is an extremely popular online multiplayer mode. The game comes with several maps, and the ability for players to make and share their own maps.
