Missions
Escape
The first mission places you in the Mark I escape suit. Its a far cry from what you'll use later, but it serves its purpose as an introduction to basic combat moves. Various systems will be brought online as you progress through the mission. First you'll learn to use the flamethrower, followed by melee/grapple attacks, and your auxilary weapon system. You'll also learn about the health bar. This measures how much damage you can take before suffering an armor breach. In this mission, you can suffer armor breaches without fear of death. In future missions, you can only sustain so many armor breaches before its game over.
Proceed through the mission and destroy anything in your path. At a midpoint, several weapon stockpiles will be marked for destruction. Blast all of them to complete the hero objective and earn more cash upon mission completion.
At the end of the level, you'll square off against a special tank. Before focusing on the tank, look to your left. A helicopter will be hovering above a line of enemies. Take down the chopper and it will cause a chain explosion that will destroy the entire line of enemies. Proceed to engage the tank. It is fairly mobile so you'll mostly use your auxilary weapon to deal damage. If and when it stops, you can throw in some punches or use the flame thrower. Once the tank is destroyed, you are victorious.
Primary Objective
- Escape the 10 rings encampment - $33m
Hero Objective
- Destroy Stark Weapon Stockpiles - $6m
Bonus Objectives
- Time Challenge - 5:45 - $?m
- Enemies to Destroy - 90 - $?m
First Flight
You begin this mission running through basic flight tests that serve as a tutorial. You'll fly through some waypoint markers and then have a few combat tests against some drones. At the end of the tutorial segment, the real fight begins. A group of mercs will attack Stark Industries. They are there to steal your tech. You have to then engage and destroy some troop transports and dropships. Eventually, they'll take control of a prototype gunship. Your only option is to destroy your own creation. The gunship will fly around the city and attack you. It will also drop drones that will move to attack civilians. Preventing civilian casualties is the hero objective so destroy the drones quickly before resuming your attack on the prototype. When the prototype is destroying, the mission is completed.
Primary Objective
- Destroy the Stark Prototype Gunship - $40m
Hero Objective
- Prevent any civilian casualties - $8m
Bonus Objectives
- Time Challenge - 7:30 - $?m
- Enemies to Destroy - 70 - $?m
Stark Weapons
At the start of the mission, you are tasked with destroying numerous stockpiles of Stark Weapons. There are several bases where the stockpiles are located. Fly around to each, destroying any enemy opposition along with the weapon stockpiles. After all of the weapon caches have been destroyed, several cargo trucks will appear carrying more weaponry. Engage your afterburners and chase down the truck convoys.
Destroy all the conveys and a large mobile weapons platform will appear. Its equipped with a variety of weapon systems and can be independently targeted. Its wise to take out these weapon systems first. You can then destroy the thrusters on the back of the platform to halt its movement. Continue to hammer away with repulsors and auxilary weapons until it is destroyed.
A squad of three US fighter jets will now appear and begin firing on you. You need to take out all three jets to complete the mission. You can blow them up with repulsor fire and auxilary weapons. Alternatively, you can take the more amiable approach and allow the pilots to live by grappling the planes. This can be difficult given how fast the jets move. Just hover in place and watch for a jet to make an attack run on you. As it approaches, ascend a bit higher into the air. The jet should pass just below you allowing for a quick grapple. A successful grab forces the pilot to eject safely and allows you to hurl the jet to the ground. After all three jets are downed, the mission is complete.
Primary Objective
- Destroy Stark weapon stockpiles - $61m
Hero Objective
- Spare the US Fighter Pilots - $14m
Bonus Objectives
- Time Challenge - 9:00 - $?m
- Enemies to Destroy - 100 - $?m
Maggia Factories
This mission is an attack on the Maggia weapon factories. The first goal is to destroy 4 control centers. Engage your afterburners and fly to each of the factories. A quick shot from whatever auxilary weapon you have should destroy a control center. Next you'll have a group of gunships to take down. Once the gunships are destroyed, Maggia begins sending tanks to attack the factory workers.
Destroy any tanks that are threatening the buildings that house the workers. After the tanks are done, immediately boost to the north. This is the closest factory. Blow up the target and the factory will explode. Turn around and head back south. Destroy the factory in this direction. There will probably be a tank heading toward the workers, so blast it as you head to the west. Destroy the last two factories and any remaining tanks.
Next, several dropships will head for the center village. You can try to destroy them before they get there. In any event, Whiplash will make an appearance in the village. Destroy any nearby enemies to make things easier and then focus on killing Whiplash. Once Whiplash is defeated, the mission is completed.
Primary Objective
- Destroy Maggia Factories - $73m
Hero Objective
- Protect 4/4 Factory Workers - $16m
Bonus Objectives
- Time Challenge - 7:00 - $?m
- Enemies to Destroy - 75 - $?m
Maggia Compound
Its time to attack Maggia directly and put a stop to them at the source. The compound is heavily protected mostly by anti-air weaponry. You'll definitely want to be flying fast and staying low to avoid enemy fire. To make matters a bit worse, there is an endless stream of bomber jets that will be assaulting you. Your first task is to destroy 10 of the anti-air defenses. Its highly advisable to start from the outer edge of the compound and stay as far from any concentration of enemies especially on harder difficulty levels.
While you're busy taking down the anti-air defenses, Maggia will become the launch sequence on a Prometheus missile. The target is the nearest civilian population. If you want to play the hero, you'll need to take down three missiles before they launch. The missiles are heavily defended so be prepared. Near each of the missiles, you'll find a fuel truck or other highly explosive target. Destroying those targets will chain react and blow up the nearby missile.
Between destroying missiles, you should continue to take down the Maggia defenses. After the defenses are down, you'll have to go after the power generator which is located behind the main compound. The easiest way to take down the generator is to fly in fast and get between the generator and the mountain. This will hide you from any enemies nearby. Punch or blast the generator until it is destroyed. This will put an end to Maggia and complete the mission.
Completing this mission unlocks the option to purchase level 2 tech for auxilary weapons.
Primary Objective
- Destroy Maggia Compound - $83m
Hero Objective
- Destroy 3/3 Prometheus Missiles - $18m
Bonus Objectives
- Time Challenge - 4:30 - $?m
- Enemies to Destroy - 66 - $8m
Flying Fortress
Maggia has one last trick to play. A mobile stronghold in the form of this Flying Fortress. You need to destroy it before it reaches civilization. As the mission opens, you are far behind the fortress and need to catch up. Reroute power to thrusters and engage your afterburners. As you close, the fortress will begin firing air burst rounds. On easy you can just continue flying straight ahead, any higher difficulty level and you'll want to do some evasive maneuvers as you continue to close. As you reach the fortress, the various anti-aircraft defenses will be marked. You need to destroy 10 of them. As you fly around destroying the anti-air turrets, stay low to avoid enemy fire. The fortress will be sending gunships at you in addition to all the turrets.
After the defenses have been weakened, the fortress will open 4 hanger bays allowing fighter jets to take off. You need to wait for the bay doors to open, and then destroy the fuel tank inside to collapse the hangers.
After the 4 hangers are destroyed, your next target is several cooling structures on the wings. These are on the bottom of the upper part of the wings. Take out any enemies nearby before destroying the cooling structures.
Next up is the cooling tanks. To reach these you need to get ahead of the fortress and come in from the center. Be careful though, there are several turrets waiting to tear you up. You should also be careful to avoid the air intakes. They'll suck you through and spit you out the back of the engines. The engine thrust will burn you if you get too close as well.
After the 4 cooling tanks are destroyed, the main reactor of the fortress will begin to overheat. Panels will retract along the top of the fortress to allow air cooling. Your goal now is to hit the reactor. There are a bunch of turrets guarding the reactor. This isn't much of a problem. Fly into the reactor room and head for the floor. There are a few lowered sections in the floor. If you stand in these, you can avoid the turrets and attack the reactor. Destroying the reactor completes the mission.
Tech level 3 for core systems will now be available for purchase.
Primary Objective
- Destroy the Flying Fortress - $88m
Hero Objective
- Avoid Civilian Casualties - $19m
Bonus Objectives
- Time Challenge - 7:00 - $9m
- Enemies to Destroy - 58 - $9m
Arctic Battle
As you approach the reactor, you'll once again encounter air defense systems. You need to destroy 10 of them. Just stay low as you approach each base and clear out all opposition. Once the air defenses are down, you're clear to approach the reactor.
As you approach the reactor, take down the enemies in the area. You'll be confronted by Titanium Man. He'll be surrounded by an impenetrable shield. A large cannon will appear surrounded in a similar shield. Take evasive actions until Jarvis pinpoints the generators for the shielding. A hit from the cannon is devastating, so stay mobile and use the terrain to provide cover.
Reinforcements will begin deploying to the other bases. Each base has a generator that needs to be destroyed. Unfortunately, the generators are only exposed while the cannon is charging. Destroy enemies in the area and wait for the generator to become vulnerable. Destroy all three generators to drop the shielding around the cannon and Titanium Man.
Immediately head for the cannon. It is now charging for an attack on the reactor. You have under a minute to destroy the cannon. Fly to the north side of the cannon to avoid some enemy fire and focus everything you have on the cannon. Once the cannon is neutralized, clear out the remaining enemies and head for Titanium Man.
As you fight Titanium Man, some reinforcement troops will continually spawn every so often. You can drop them easily enough with some quick repulsor fire. Just continue to hammer on Titanium Man and try to stay at a decent range to minimize damage. Circle strafing around him also helps minimize damage. Try to avoid his unibeam type attack as well, especially on higher difficulties. He'll eventually go and recharge to regain some health. Just continue beating on him after he's done charging. Once he's defeated, the mission is completed.
Level 3 tech for both power systems and thrusters can now be purchased.
Primary Objective
- Defeat Titanium Man - $91m
Hero Objective
- Protect the Nuclear facility - $20m
Bonus Objectives
- Time Challenge - 12:00 - $9m
- Enemies to Destroy - 72 - $9m
Lost Destroyer
Contact has been lost with a new prototype destroyer. AIM appears to be involved, so its off to investigate. You'll immediately be under attack. Return fire and stay out of the shimmering dome areas. You'll get disoriented if you enter these regions. Take out all the enemies in the area, most importantly the controller drones. You must clear out four of these bases.
As you progress, you'll have to contently fight through waves of AIM gunships, AIM tanks, flak cannons, turrets, and howitzers. Keeping power routed to life support is probably the best way to go. Just continue to work your way from base to base clearing out all resistance. A submarine will surface from time to time. It will fire a barrage of missiles and deploy a laser cannon to fire on you. Just avoid the sub. It will dive shortly after surfacing and heal any damage taken.
After the bases are done, you will locate the missing Destroyer. Unfortunately, its being controlled by the sub and will attack you. Just avoid the Destroyer's weaponry. Harming the destroy will cause you to fail the hero objective. If you don't care about the hero objective, blasting the Destroyer's weaponry makes the fight against the sub much easier.
Either way, fly around and wait for the sub to surface. Each time the sub surfaces, destroy the laser cannon first as it will eat through your life fairly quick. Once the cannon is down, focus on the sub. Routing power to weapons while the sub is surfaced and life support while its down is advisable. Once the sub is destroyed, the mission is completed.
Completing this mission opens purchase of tech level 3 for repulsors.
Primary Objective
- Defeat AIM and secure the Destroyer - $94m
Hero Objective
- Avoid harming Destroyer and Crew - 22m
Bonus Objectives
- Time Challenge - 14:00 - $9m
- Enemies to Destroy - 108 - $9m
On Defense
This mission puts you against Titanium Man. There are other enemies in the area who will harass you, but your primary goal is simply to chase after and defeat Titanium Man. As you fight Titanium Man, try to keep your distance and avoid when he charges at you. If you get close, he'll grab and hurl you toward the ground. As long as you remain a fair distance from the ground, you'll avoid impact.
Eventually, Titanium Man will head for a power generator. He'll then proceed to drain energy from it and restore his lost health. From there on, he'll routinely head to a generator and regain health. You are given the option to destroy the generators to prevent Titanium Man from regaining health. However, doing so will cause you to fail the hero objective. Just continue to focus on Titanium Man and eventually you'll be victorious. Routing power to weapons will make short work of him.
Tech level 3 for auxilary weapons becomes available after completing this mission.
Primary Objective
- Defeat Titanium Man - $98m
Hero Objective
- Avoid damaging the cities power supply - $24m
Bonus Objectives
- Time Challenge - 11:00 - $10m
- Enemies to Destroy - 35 - $?m
Save Pepper
The entire mission revolves around protecting the reactor. Throughout the mission, enemy gunships will attack the reactor. They will also attack nearby tesla towers. By flying through an active tesla tower, you generate an electrical barrier around the reactor. This destroys enemies around the reactor. More importantly, this destroys incoming missile barrages. The key to victory lies in destroying the missile barrages. Use an electrical overload or shoot down the missiles. At the end of the mission, you'll need to survive against a continuous missile barrage from all directions. Use an electrical barrage and then focus on missiles. As long as the reactor has not suffered excessive damage, it will survive through the barrage.
This is probably the hardest mission to complete. Rapid firing repulsors are almost a must to destroy the overwhelming number of incoming missiles. Routing power to weapons is also recommended. The increase to repulsor firing rate is really helpful for downing missiles.
Primary Objective
- Prevent reactor destruction while Pepper is inside - $103m
Hero Objective
- Protect the outlying occupied building - $24m
Bonus Objectives
- Time Challenge - 25:00 - $10m
- Enemies to Destroy - 85 - $10m
Island Meltdown
The goal is to destroy the proton cannon. This is done by first destroying five power couplings which exposes the cannon. Of course, there are swarms of enemies surround the power couplings. What makes things even more difficult is that the power couplings will fix themselves if given sufficient time. This means you are racing against a hidden repair timer. You need to destroy the last coupling before the first can repair itself. Once the cannon is exposed, it can not be attacked directly. The cannon is immune to your attacks. The trick is that your enemy can harm it. Hover between the cannon and the main enemy. At the last moment, dodge out of the way of the incoming attack. Do this until the cannon is destroyed. Directing power to life support will probably help in case you fail to dodge and end up eating the energy blast. Once the cannon is destroyed, the mission is completed. If you manage to take the cannon down quick enough, you'll also complete the hero objective.
Primary Objective
- Destroy the proton cannon - $105m
Hero Objective
- Prevent Cannon attack on civilian targets - $24m
Bonus Objectives
- Time Challenge - 12:00 - $11m
- Enemies to Destroy - 80 - $?m
Space Tether
AIM has found a power-source in a satellite solar collector. The goal of the mission is to destroy the tether that links to the collector.
The first set of targets are four Maser Accumulators. The accumulators are small domes that surround the tether. To destroy them, you need to get underneath each one. After destroying the accumulators the satellite begins to overload. You are now under a time limit to complete the hero objective.
Head toward the tether and begin destroying any orange targets. You'll need to steadily progress up the tower as new targets appear. Just continue destroying targets as they are assigned. As you reach the top of the tether, you need to finish off the tether supports. Just circle strafe around the tether and destroy all of them. This will finish off the tether and complete the mission.
Primary Objective
- Destroy the space tether - $114m
Hero Objective
- Sever the tether before the satellite overloads - $26m
Bonus Objectives
- Time Challenge - 10:00 - $11m
- Enemies to Destroy - 55 - $?m
Showdown
This is the final fight. Its Iron Man vs Iron Monger. Be wary of staying too close to Iron Monger. He has many attacks that do a lot of damage but aren't very accurate. If you stay at range, most of Iron Monger's attacks will be largely ineffective. Just continue firing repulsors and auxilary weapons until his health bar is depleted. At this point, Iron Monger plummets to the ground and regains his entire health bar. The trick is to take advantage of the momentary disorientation he suffers on impacting the ground to execute a grapple attack.
This moves the fight into a new phase. Iron Monger disappears, but reinforcements have arrived. Gunships will begin appearing and attacking you. The objective is to destroy the 4 power regulators on top of Stark HQ. After all 4 are destroyed, a final cutscene will initiate and you will be victorious.
Primary Objective
- Defeat Iron Monger - $154m
Hero Objective
- Destroy power regulators - $46m
