Gameplay
The legal system in Phoenix Wright is different than the real world.
- All suspects are guilty until proven innocent.
- Trials last a maximum of three days. If the suspect isn't proven innocent by this time, they're deemed guilty and taken to jail.
- If you accuse a witness of lying and can't prove it, or if you present irrelevant evidence, the judge may pronounce your client guilty.
- Prosecution attorneys are only concerned with finding your client guilty. They will lie and present false evidence in court.
- Phoenix Wright's clients are always innocent. Whether they go to jail is up to you.
Actions
Investigation
You must gather evidence and information to help your client in court. In this section, you can't do anything that would cause you to lose the case.
- Examine: You can examine locations to look for evidence. When you point to an object, you can examine them as well. You'll want to examine every location you go to, and every object you find there.
- Move: Moving allows you to change locations. As you get new information new locations will appear.
- Talk: Talking to witness is one of the best ways to gather information.
- Present: When talking to witness, you can present them with evidence to get them to tell you important information, or to catch them in a lie.
Courtroom
- Press: You can ask the witness follow up questions to get more information or perhaps catch them in a lie. You might as well press after every question, there is no cost or penalty and it often reveals important information.
- Present: The present action shows evidence to the witness and the court. Show the right evidence at the right time, and you might crack the case or catch a witness in a lie. If you show irrelevant evidence too often (five times in one trial) your client will automatically be found guilty.
