Classes
The co-operative campaign of Resistance 2 requires players to choose one of three classes. Each class has a specialized role in combat. Having some of each unit in your group is necessary to successfully advance through the game.
Each class gets experience for killing enemies and for performing their class function. Soldiers get experience for absorbing damage with their shields, Special Ops get experience for handing out ammo, and Medics for healing. Not only does experience allow you to gain levels, it also powers Beserk abilities. These are limited time power boosts that have different effects depending on your class. Press down on the directional button to activate a Beserk.
Players should stay together and fight in groups. Soldiers should be up front protecting the rest of the group with their shields and taking out enemies with their heavy weapons. It's important that Soldiers move slowly so other players can stay behind their shields. Special Ops players should be behind the soldiers, supplying them with ammo for their weapons and shields. They should also watch the flanks and take out any enemies that get past the Soldiers. Medics should be at the rear of the group. They should be monitoring the health of the rest of the group, healing as much as possible. Only when the rest of the group's health is stable should they turn their Phoenix guns on the enemy to recharge them.
Soldier
Soldiers use heavy weapons to destroy the enemy, and protect other members of the group with shields.
Beserks:
- Ironheart - reduces enemy damage by half. Available at level 1.
- Overload - a suicide bomb that will kill nearby enemies. Requires level 4.
- Backlash - causes enemies to attack the soldier. Any damage absorbed by shields during this time will reflect back to the enemy. Requires level 12.

- Chloroform - any enemies hit using the phoenix become paralyzed. Requires level 4.
