River City Ransom is a one of a kind beat'em up with RPG elements. Originally released on the NES back in 1989, the game became a cult classic and is a welcome addition to the Virtual Console's line up. One or two players must traverse through the mean streets of River City. They must defeat gangs and bosses along the way to River City High where the evil Slick holds Ryan's girlfriend hostage. Players earn money from defeating enemies and may use it to purchase food to increase stats or books to learn new techniques. River City Ransom is a surprisingly robust game for its time.
