Soul Calibur IV has 34 different characters, and each has a different set of moves. The key to winning is to pick a character with a style you like, then learn how to play that character well. For more information about a character, click on their name.
Algol:an excellent long range attacker.
Amy: a quick close and mid range fighter.
Angol Fear: a guest character with the same moves as Seong Mi-na.
The Apprentice: also known as Starkiller, a guest character from the Star Wars universe.
Ashlotte: a guest character with the same moves as Astaroth.
Astaroth: powerful but slow.
Cassandra: a close range fighter.
Cervantes: fast and deadly at any range.
Darth Vader: exclusive to the PS3, a guest character from the Star Wars universe.
Hilde: good long and mid range attacks with a unique special move system.
Ivy: a hard to learn but versatile character.
Kamikirimusi: a guest character with the same moves as Nightmare.
Kilik: mid range fighter with excellent dodge abilities.
Lizardman: a close range character with a formidable crawling stance.
Maxi: a nunchaku armed close-in fighter. Popular with both advanced players and button mashers.
Mitsurugi: several simple but solid moves make Mitsurugi a great choice for new players.
Nightmare: slow but strong attacks.
Raphael: a fast character with limited offense.
Rock: a slow but powerful long range attacker with excellent throws.
Scheherazade: a guest character with the same moves as
Amy.
Seong Mi-na: is dedicated to long range fighting.
Setsuka: is dedicated to close range fighting.
Shura: a guest character with the same moves as
Cervantes.
Siegfried: a mid range character.
Sophitia: good at any range, but excels close in.
Taki: a fast character who can string together attacks effectively.
Talim: fast with rapid attacks.
Tira: her split personality gives her two different sets of attacks making her quite versatile.
Voldo: has strange moves that work equally well facing toward or away from his opponent.
Xianghua: a mid range fighter with easy to learn moves makes her a great choice for beginners and advanced players alike.
Yoda: exclusive to the Xbox 360, a guest character from the Star Wars universe. He is immune to many high attacks and throws.
Yoshimitsu: has an unusual but effective play style.
Yun-seong: a well balanced fighter.
Zasalamel: excels at using multi-hit attacks to keep his opponents off balance.
