About
A secret cult was charged by the god Ares to retrieve the evil Soul Edge sword for him. They quickly went to work and created Astaroth. With his mighty axe in hand, Astaroth unwillingly set out after the legendary sword. The cult leader, Kunpaetku, that created Astaroth was secretly planning to keep the Soul Edge for himself while Ares knew of the leader's betrayal, possessed Astaroth with a servant of his own.
Astaroth eventually teamed up with Nightmare with intentions of betraying him and taking with Soul Edge back to his master. However, Astaroth was killed by Maxi before he could achieve his goal. Years later, Astaroth was resurrected by Ares when rumors began to spread about the Soul Edge's reappearance. He had be inflicted by the Soul Edge prior to death however and now that infection made him stronger and less controllable. Kunpaetku attempted to regain control of his creation by cursing him. Astaroth returned to the underground temple of his birth and set out to destroy it. Slaughtering most of the cult, Astaroth was about to kill his own creator when Kunpaetku blurted out that Astaroth was modeled after a human. Confused and angry, Astaroth broke the curse by destroying the rest of the temple and then set out to find the one he was modeled after.
Enraged by the thought of being modeled after a human, Astaroth hunted the man down and was about to destroy him. Filled with intense emotions, Astaroth began to transform with rage. After the transformation, Astaroth found that the man he was modeled after hurled himself off the nearby cliff in fear. He slowly began to realize that ever since his creation, he had been doing the bidding of others. With pieces of the Soul Edge lodged inside of him, Astaroth set out on a killing spree collecting souls to become more powerful. He was going to go after the very god that started this all, Ares.
Astaroth was then approached by a small girl who instructed him that he needed stronger souls if he intended to take on a god. He seemingly agreed and knew that Nightmare was behind this. Now that Astaroth has his own goal and agenda, he will aid Nightmare until the time is right to betray him and take the Soul Edge from himself and defeat Ares.
Tactics
Astaroth is extremely slow but can dish out some heavy damage. Avoid close range combat as he won't be able to get an attack in against faster characters at that range. His gigantic axe gives him a ton of long ranged attacks though. Astaroth players should keep their distance from opponents and strike accordingly. Aside from being slow, Astaroth's size means it's harder to avoid a lot of attacks as well.
