Cervantes is a dual sword wielding character, one of which has a gun attached to the hilt, and one that has a fragment of the Soul Edge. He is the father of Ivy.
Cervantes has had a very close relationship with the Soul Edge. This pirate at one point acquired the evil sword which found a equally evil host out of Cervantes. He was defeated and lost the sword but he retained fragments of the evil blade and began to collect more of them. He soon nearly had them all when the Soul Calibur sword appeared and sealed the Soul Edge away. Striped of the most of Soul Edge's power, Cervantes set out to collect souls and built an armada of the undead to help him destroy the Soul Calibur sword once and for all. As many lives and souls that he took however, they did not give him the power he needed. He then located his daughter, Ivy, and devoured her pure soul to gain great power from taking the soul of his own blood line. Then the evil Soul Edge freed itself from its prison and recalled all of its power. At first, Cervantes refused to give up its power, but he then realized he could let it go for the time being and he would reclaim the sword as a whole once again.
He can be unlocked for 4,000 gold at the character creation screen.
Tactics
Cervantes can be pretty deadly at just about any range. He has a gun built into the hilt of one of his swords that gives him a ranged attack. He can also teleport behind an opponent. His Geo Da Ray attack is also great for ranged attacks but be careful as this ability can send Cervantes himself out of the ring.
Many of Cervantes moves can be stringed together to confuse the enemy. Because of Cervantes multiple techniques that allow him to teleport, you can effectively leave the opponent wondering where you will strike next.
An example would be the move dread charge, it can lead to either a dread slash which is unblockable, the Geo Da Ray attack which executes quite fast, or even teleport himself closer to the enemy by pressing the directional key towards the opponent. That's not all though, his Geo Da Ray can also result in a sweeping kick or a upwards spiral that deals significant damage to the enemy.
Its important to note that Cervantes is not invincible even with the wide variety of attacks possible with his form Dread Charge. His animation speed for Dread Charge leaves him extremely vulnerable to short-distance quick attackers such as Talim, Maxi, or Taki due to its extremely long charge rate. Fear not though because Cervantes also has a counter for its inadequate charge up speed for Dread Charge. A "Just" attack can be performed if ones hands are quick and accurate enough. This involves inputting the commands at a very fast pace (for Cervantes anyways) to perform a quicker version of either the teleport or the Geo Da Ray. This leaves opponents always guessing when you're going to take time to slowly use Dread Charge or just attack viciously with a just attack.
