Overview

Captain Olimar doesn't fight directly; instead, he uses five Pikmin to fight for him. Each is different, based on color. Olimar's damage percentages vary greatly depending on which Pikmin he's using to attack, as well as whether or not he's attacking on his own (as with the A Button attacks). When Olimar uses his Pikmin Throw attack to toss Pikmin onto an opponent, the damage he inflicts depends entirely on how long the Pikmin is able to hold on before falling off.

Pikmin and Olimar are strong medium range attackers. When playing as Olimar, try to keep at the distance close enough to hit with the Pikmin throw attack, but far enough away that enemies can't hit you with close range attacks. Most opponents will try to attack at very close range, so Olimar should keep moving at all times. Overall, the cons outweigh the pros with Olimar, but if you practice with him long enough you may be able to make him a formidible foe to your opponents.

  • Best projectile attacks (particularly White Pikmin) in Brawl
  • Smashes and special moves are long range and often powerful
  • Attacks come out fast
  • Grab is fast and has good range
  • Small target for opponents to hit

Cons

  • Olimar practially useless without his Pikmin
  • Hard to accurately get to the Pikmin you want to use in a certain situation
  • Order of Pikmin can make combos completely impossible
  • Pikmin are easily killed, either by opponents or falling off edges
  • Aerial attacks have short range
  • Length of recovery depends on number of Pikmin you currently have
  • Will lose all his non-blue Pikmin if he lands in water
  • Light-weight, so attacks make him fly farther

Special Notes

  • Pikmin & Olimar are available from the start of the game.
  • At the start of each match, Olimar starts with 3 Pikmin.

Olimar Only

When Olimar is by himself, with no Pikmin, his fighting techniques are crippled and his recovery move is nearly useless, offering barely any extra height when used. He is also incapable of performing grabs or smash attacks in this state.
