Air units are fast and can fly over any terrain. They can deliver large payloads that are just as effective as ground units at taking out the enemy. The problem with air units are their vulnerability to anti-air units, especially stationary anti-air buildings.

Transports

Transports are a great way to get your ground units around the map. Not only can they cover large distances quickly, but they can fly over mountains or water.

The ferry command is great for moving large numbers of units from one place to another. The transports will make as many trips as necessary to get all the selected units to the new location without you giving further orders. Properly using the ferry command can be tricky at first, so check out the in-game tutorial and practice before an important battle. When setting up a ferry with multiple aircraft, it helps to have them spread out just a bit. This lets you see which ferry beacon goes to which aircraft and how many units are waiting for each aircraft.

Bots that are being carried can fire their weapons in the air. This allows you to create a "poor man's gunship" to attack ground targets.

Don't forget they can also carry engineers. You can quickly get engineers to resources, then have them construct defenses to protect them.
