Iselia, the Village of Oracles

Tales of Symphonia opens with the main character, Lloyd, receiving a rude awakening after falling asleep in class. Here you'll meet your schoolmates Colette and Genis, as well as the rest of your class if you feel like speaking to them. When you're done being social, leave the classroom via the door on the left and tell Genis that you're taking off; he and Colette will follow you out. Outside you'll hear that the Desians, monsters that refuse to comply with the standards of life in a civilized world, have attacked the town and have reached the Martel Temple, which just happens to be Colette's destination.

Before you head there, though, you'll want to make a couple pit stops. Use the save point by the school to save your game, then head to Colette's house, just east of the school. Return here if you want to be healed, because Frank will do it for free. South of the school you'll find the shop; purchase Boots for your party there and equip them (they're accessories). Now try to exit the town to the north. You'll be faced with your first two battles, both of which are a piece of cake. Just mash on the A button to clear the foes away with ease. Battles in the future will gradually require a little more strategy, such as special attacks with the B button and guarding with the X button, but these first ones are simple melees. Once outside the town on the world map, spend some time fighting enemies until Lloyd reaches level 4 and Colette reaches level 3. You'll gain some money this way, too, enough to buy another Life Bottle from the shop in town. Heal up with Frank again before you leave again, then head north to Martel Temple.

Martel Temple

Once you arrive, choose to follow Colette inside. Soon you'll be thrust into battle with some Desian guards; jump behind them and attack if they're blocking your weapons too much. After they're down, you'll enter your first bottle battle.

Boss: Vidarr

For the first fifteen seconds or so of this battle, just keep blocking Vidarr's attacks until a mysterious stranger enters the battle. At that point, winning will be easy, especially if you leveled Lloyd up prior to this. Use your special attacks for extra damage and be sure to block when Vidarr tries to hit you. With the unnamed mercenary at your side, this battle shouldn't last long.

The mysterious stranger is named Kratos (no, not of God of War fame), and he's now officially a new member of your entourage! Inside the Temple itself, two paths are blocked off, so go right and take the stairs there down. Head to the upper platform in the next room to find some big (but not overly powerful) monsters. Defeat them (Sonic Rush works best) and they'll turn into rocks that you'll have to use to drop into the holes in the floor. Colette will accidentally knock one into a hole, and you'll want to push another one into that same hole (you'll find out why soon enough). Head up the stairs on the left for some treasure chests, then head back down and push two more rocks into the upper-middle and right-middle holes. Go back downstairs now and cross your new bridge (pushing the one block forward to complete it) to obtain the Sorcerer's Ring. This item will all you to break the seal on the upper floor, so head there and take the warp point to the top of the temple. Colette will be given a task, which begins with praying at the Seal of Fire to the south.

Iselia, Part 2

Unfortunately, for now, Colette and Kratos are leaving the party, so you'll have to return to Iselia with only Genis at your side. Play it smart and don't get into too many (if any) battles on the way back to increase your chances of remaining on the mortal coil. In Iselia, head to the classroom for a new title for Genis, then go speak to Colette in her house (found in the northeast corner of town). Finally, go to Genis's house to learn some cooking tips, then exit town to the south. Head east on the world map to Iselia Forest.

Iselia Forest

The path through the forest is pretty straightforward, and there are plenty of treasure chests to open. You'll meet Genis's elderly friend Marble at the entrance to the Human Ranch of the Desians. After the conversation, check the area around the main gate for a cliff you can jump to, and do so. Go right for an Orange Gel, then drop down and head up for some dialogue, after which Lloyd must play decoy to divert attention from Genis. You'll have to fight some Desian Whip Masters, but they're quite easy, so don't fret. You'll then reunite with Genis, then part ways once again, leaving Lloyd to roam solo. Save your game at the save point, then take the upper path to get on the world map. Follow the short path to the little house.

Dirk's House

You'll meet the adoptive father of Lloyd here, and after their friendly little chat, Colette will show up. Listen to what everyone has to say, and then you'll be plunked back in good ol' Iselia.

Iselia, Part 3

Stroll on over to Colette's house and talk to her father, Frank. Desians will then descend upon the village, and it's your job to clear them out! Begin by taking down the Desians south of Colette's house, then go kill the ones by the school. Return to Colette's house and ask Frank to regenerate your health, then go south to the town square to meet Lord Fortystus, who sics a monster on you.

Boss: Exbelua

Send Lloyd forward to inundate Exbelua with combo attacks while Genis continually casts magic. Exbelua's attacks aren't anything to worry about, though you'll want to block them whenever possible, particularly the attack that comes when it grabs its head and starts trembling. Use Apple Gels to keep both of your party members above the 150 HP mark at all times.

Somehow, Lloyd is blamed for the Desian attack and is thereafter exiled from Iselia. Genis, ever loyal, decides to come with you anyway, and so the search for Colette begins. Exit town to the south and continue south into the desert. Locate Nova's Caravan by the forest south of the desert and use the free healing there to build up a couple levels in the vicinity. Sooner or later you'll receive a note from Dirk which will teach you how to use EX Gems. Stop by the House of Salvation south of the Caravan and speak to the man outside for the Long Range View for the Iselia region. Stay the night if you need healing, then go south to your next destination, the village of Triet.

Triet

When you enter the town, go left and learn about how to customize your equipment. Buy the Knight's Saber for Lloyd and the Fine Star for Genis, if you can afford them. Pick up some new armor while you're at it, then go to the Inn and save your game. Check upstairs for the Wonder Chef to learn how to cook cabbage rolls, then go out and explore the rest of the town. Speak to the fortune teller to the north and spend 100 Gald to learn some very unhelpful information about Colette's whereabouts, then try to leave town via the southern exit. There you'll have to face some Whip Masters, after which the Desians will capture Lloyd and send him to their desert prison.

Sylvarant Base

Regaining control in your cell, use the Sorcerer's Ring to frighten the guard away, then open your cell door, and don't ask how on earth that's supposed to work. Save your game at the save point, grab the Beast Hide from the other panel, then head down the path and open the chest for your equipment. Fight through a pair of guards, then enter the room and take a look at the pedestal. This changes the Sorcerer's Ring's function to an electrical attack which you can use to shock and stun the robotic guards here. Wait until they're on the electric plates to do so and the door out will unlock. Go left, take out the guards in the corridor for a Memory Gem, then go through the northern door. You can find a Beast Fang and a computerized shop above, so check those out, then come back to the corridor and go east. Use the Memory Gem to unlock the save point there, use it, then look at the three pillars. Shooting them causes the room to rotate: the top one rotates it 180 degrees, the middle one 90, and the bottom one 45. Shoot the top pillar once and the bottom once to open the north door, then go through to face your next boss fight.

Boss: Botta

Botta's got 4,200 HP and two lesser Desians along with him for this fight, so take those two down before focusing your attacks on the big kahuna. Send Lloyd in for close-range attacks, and make sure you block Botta's inevitable counterattacks. Use Kratos to heal any party member whose HP drops below half while Colette uses mid-range techs and Genis casts spells from afar. If you defend against nothing else, try to block Botta's attack where he sticks his sword in the ground and sends waves of energy out at you. Three attacks followed by Tiger Slash or Sword Rain work wonders.

Triet, Part 2

A cut scene ensues after the battle, after which you'll be on the way back to Triet. You'll watch another cut scene there at the Inn, and then Raine will join your party. She's a great healer, so be sure to have her learning new Techs by casting First Aid constantly, and buy her some good armor from the shop in town. When you've got your party ready for bear, leave town and head west to the Triet Ruins.

Triet Ruins

Note that this is the Seal of Fire, and as such, the enemies here will be weak against water techs/spells. Once you're inside, go left to find some rocks preventing you from opening a treasure chest. Use the Sorcerer's Ring to remove the obstruction and open the chest for a Lemon Gel. If you take the other path you'll find a chest that's actually a Fake enemy that you'll have to fight if you're foolish enough to try to "open" it. Avoid it completely and head to the room in the middle of the ruins. Use the Sorcerer's Ring to light the three unlit torches there and push the blocks into the holes in order to get to all the treasure chests. Be sure to find the Mumei for Lloyd, the Stiletto for Kratos, and the Circlet for Colette! Use the Memory Gem to repair the save point, use it, create a party consisting of Lloyd, Genis, Colette, and Kratos, then step into the teleporter. Shortly thereafter, you'll have a boss battle on your hands.

Boss: Ktugach

Start off by killing the lesser Ktugachlings. Cut off all of Genis's spells save Aqua Edge, and set Kratos to heal when your teammates' HP reaches the halfway mark. As for Lloyd, send him in with your strongest combos. You'll want to use the Guardian tech (Block + DOWN) that Kratos taught you earlier to guard against Ktugach's Eruption attack; just watch for that circle beneath your feet for the cue to use the tech. Other than that, just keep remembering to heal if your teammates' AI isn't up to the task.

Triet, Part 3

After defeating Ktugach, Colette will grow wings and learn the Angel Feathers ability. After a night in the ruins, return to Triet and you'll earn the "Sisterly Love" title for Raine. Stay the night at the Inn for another scene, then head east of town to the Ossa Trail.

Ossa Trail

Once you've dispensed with the initial encounter with the Clumsy Assassin, heal along the main path to a fork. Go left to find a Battle Staff for Raine, then keep going until you reach a save point. Use it, grab the Melange Gel and Apple Gel nearby, then go right. Take the Orange Gel and proceed down until you run into the Clumsy Assassin again. This time there'll be a fight!

Boss: Clumsy Assassin

The Clumsy Assassin's got a Wind Guardian with her, but the Guardian is actually stronger than she is, so focus your attacks on her first and foremost. If you bring Kratos and Raine along for the battle, they should be able to handle all the healing, leaving Lloyd and Colette to dole out the damage. The Assassin's attacks are nothing to sneeze at, so try to guard against them whenever possible when you're not pummeling her with combos. Once she goes down, take on the Wind Guardian, which incidentally is not resistant to wind-based attacks.

When the battle is over, go to the world map for a lesson on Unison Attacks, then return to the Ossa Trail and head to where the Clumsy Assassin ran off under the mountain. When you hit the three-way fork in the path, go right for the Black Silver, left and up for the Fine Guard, then right and up for the Beast Fang and EX Gem Lv1. There's an optional boss (the Sword Dancer) here as well that you can fight if you talk to it, but it's incredibly difficult to do so at this point in the game, so just avoid it for now. Exit the cave and the Ossa Trail now, then go southeast to the port town of Izoold.

Izoold

Take in the sea air, then locate the Katz Exploration Team stand and enter the house to the left of it to meet Alya. Speak with her, then go to the house with the Katz explorer on it. There's a Wonder Cook inside who will teach you how to cook Rice Balls. Go right next and talk to Max about riding his boat, then set sail for the city of Palmacosta.

Palmacosta

Begin your city tour by swinging into the customization shop and upgrade Lloyd's weapon to the Masamune (you'll need the Mumei and a Rapier for it, as well as some White Silver for sale there at the shop). Once you've got that (and you'll be thankful for it in battle), go south into town for a cut scene with some local morons, after which you'll have to go buy a Palma Potion from the item shop to the east. Unfortunately, it's going to cost you 1000 Gald, so you may need to sell some things to get it. Return the Potion to the dimwits and listen to their plans involving Governor-General Dorr. Visit his home to the east and learn that he gave up the Book of Regeneration, which of course you'll have to recover from those geniuses who ran off to Hakonesia Peak. Don't rush off there yet, though. First check out the school for a little contest of the mind with Genis; to win, answer three questions right in the first classroom (ANSWERS: 1) Guardian, 2) the Acceleration Constant of Gravity, and 3) I Don't Know) and then watch the cut scene in the second classroom. Next go talk to the head priest at the church. Finally, if you want to make some Gald, spend some time working at the cafeteria.

Your destination now is Hakonesia Peak, far to the north. Before you start trekking off in that direction, though, go south of Palmacosta, sticking to the coast to find a chest with an EX Gem Lvl 2 in it. Equip it, then start heading northeast of Palmacosta, staying on the trail. Rest and save at the House of Salvation on the way, then continue north to the peak itself.

Hakonesia Peak

Your time here will be short-lived for the moment. Speak to the pilgrims, then enter the building to talk to the egotistical Koton. He's got the Book of Regeneration, and it can be yours if you bring him the statue from the House of Salvation south of here. Throwing a monkey wrench into your plans, though, is the news that Palmacosta is being attacked by the Desians. You have to return there, but don't worry, you'll be back shortly. Rush down the trail to the south to get back to Palmacosta.

Palmacosta, Part 2

Head to Dorr's house, watch the enfolding scene, then get ready to fight! Don't worry, these guys won't pose any threat to you, and if you acquired the Masamune earlier you'll cut through them like a hot knife through margarine. Afterward, watch the scene at the item shop, then speak to the priestess by the town exit to get back to the peak. You won't be able to climb the pass at the moment, though, because the guards want you to meet them at the Human Ranch nearby. Take the trail going southeast of the House of Salvation, then head north around the mountains to find the ranch.

Palmacosta Human Ranch

Speak to Dorr's assistant, Nick, to learn that Dorr has led you into a trap. You can go back to Palmacosta to fight him right now, or head on into the Ranch. Choose to enter the ranch (we'll take care of Dorr later). Fight your way through the gate and head up to find a pedestal that changes the function of the Sorcerer's Ring to a radar that signals when you are near hidden switches, paths, or treasures. Head over to the screen to the right and keep your radar activated to find everything in there. Take the hidden path to the east and use the Refresher to heal up. Stay nearby to raise some levels and acquire the Purple Card from an enemy, then go back to the east room and make sure you've extended all the walkways. Return to the pedestal where you got your radar upgrade and use the radar there to find a warp point, then take it. Save your game at the save point, then go west to find the Blue Card. Head east now and use the radar to find some hidden blocks. Drop into the slots to find an EX Gem Lv2, then look around for a Red Card and a Mage Cloak after moving some other blocks. Detach all the bridges to make a staircase appear in the middle of the room, then head back to the warp point by the save point. Go through and you'll be faced with a series of eight rooms with warps and hidden treasures to be found. Make sure to use the radar in every room to find the hidden goodies.

  • Room 1: Take the yellow warp point to the west
  • Room 2: Take the yellow warp point to the north
  • Room 3: Take the green warp point to the north
  • Room 4: Take the Panacea Bottle, then return to Room 2
  • Room 2: Take the red warp point to the west
  • Room 5: Take the yellow warp to the south, find the Life Bottle with the radar, then go back to Room 5 and take the same warp point you came in on
  • Room 5: Take the yellow warp point to the north
  • Room 6: Take the yellow warp point to the west
  • Room 7: Take the yellow warp point to the north
  • Room 8: Take the red warp point to the west

Watch the scene that occurs after you meet up with Chocolat, then let her take you to the warp point that goes to the control room. Look around for a save point you can unlock first, save there, then go through the warp point Chocolat showed you to face a boss.

Boss: Magnius

Magnius has got a Whip Master and a Bowman backing him up, so take them down first before they deal out any significant damage. You'd do well to bring both Raine and Kratos along for this battle for healing purposes, as Magnius can dish it out well. But then so can you, as long as you avoid using fire-based attacks. This is also the first time you'll be able to use Unison Attacks in a boss battle, so rack up the combos after Magnius uses a special attack. The one to avoid and guard against is his Flame Lance, which takes off a huge chunk of HP from anyone standing in front of him. With 8,500 HP, Magnius can be brought down quickly if you don't let up your offense.

Watch the cut scenes following the battle, then make your way back to Palmacosta.

Palmacosta, Part 3

Save your game, then head into the municipal building. Go down to the basement and get ready for a brawl.

Boss: Kilia

She's got 10,000 HP, but after Magnius she's a breeze. Use your Unison attack right off the bat and keep your combos coming strong afterward. Much of Kilia's attacks in the first half of the fight are magical in nature, and as such she won't be blocking many of your attacks. Eventually she'll sprout wings and take to the air, at which point her attacks will be more physical. Block as many of them as you can while returning blows, and keep her away fro Raine, who should be your healer for the battle.

Kilia drops the Heal Bracelet, a nice accessory that you should equip on Lloyd immediately. You'll also gain the pass to the Hakonesia Peak during the event that follows. Your next destination is the Thoda Geyser, accessible from the Thoda Dock. To reach the dock, head southeast of the Palmacosta Human Ranch. Rent a boat there and sail to the Thoda Geyser.

Thoda Geyser

Head up the stairs to the edge of the pool so that Genis freezes it. You can then cross the ice to grab the Statue by following Genis's directions. Next check out the stone by the lake and the entrance to the Seal of Water will be revealed. Go on in. You'll see a device that alters the functionality of your Sorcerer's Ring, but you'll want to leave it alone for the time being. Exit left and light the two torches flanking the set of scales. There are some hidden treasures by the pillars to the right, so find those, and unlock the save point if you can.

Return to the first room and use the device to make your Sorcerer's Ring shoot water. Now take the far right exit. Head along the path to reach the save point, then push the nearby block all the way to the right, beneath the door. Head back to the save point and shoot the bottle on the scales with the Sorcerer's Ring to tip the scales and close the door (but since you placed the block there, you can still go through). Take that passage back to the lower set of scales and fill the bottle there as well to raise a platform with a warp point on it. Save your game, heal up, then take the warp point to a boss fight.

Boss: Adulocia

Turn off all of Genis's spells except for lightning-based ones, then set out to kill the two Amphitras accompanying Adulocia. You'll want to block the bubble attack that Adulocia uses frequently and unleash your Unison attacks as soon as she's alone. Colette should be casting Angel Feathers while Genis uses thunder techs like Thunder Blade and Lightning Tiger on the boss, and Raine or Kratos should be healing constantly. Lloyd should be using combos nonstop (unless you have to block an attack). With only 10,000 HP, Adulocia won't last long with a constant assault.

Hakonesia Peak, Part 2

After the cut scenes following Adulocia's defeat, sail back across the water and head straight to Hakonesia Peak. Hand over the Statue for the Book of Regeneration, then head north through the pass. You'll hit another House of Salvation, at which point you should turn west and follow the trail to the city of Asgard. Save outside the city, because there's a boss fight in town.

Asgard

As with any new town, you'll want to head to the equipment shops and upgrade your weapons and armor. Unfortunately, it's going to cost you a lot of Grade to do so to get the Black Silver needed for the upgrades, so spend wisely. Explore the town at your leisure, but when you're ready to move on, head to the ruins on the hill at the back of the town and watch what unfolds there. When you regain control of Lloyd while Raine is speaking, head around to the back for another scene, after which you'll be kicked out of the ruins by the mayor. Go to the eastern section of town and look around for Linar's house. Linar's sister is about to be given up as a human sacrifice to the creature in the ruins, so you'll have to go see the mayor about replacing Linar's sister with Raine. Stay at the Inn if you aren't fully healed, then head to the mayor to arrange the switch (obviously, you'll need Raine in your party). Soon enough, the creature will appear, and there's no way you're going to give up Raine without a fight, right?

Boss: Windmaster

Few boss names have struck less fear into a gamer's heart than this one, especially when you consider how weak the Windmaster really is after you've upgraded your weapons and armor. Make sure Ganis's magic has been tweaked to avoid casting wind-elemental spells, for the obvious reason. Bring Raine along to heal you, with Kratos intermittently healing and attacking. Use the Sonic Sword Rain techs after a spell from Genis for big damage.

Beating the Windmaster nets you the Artifact accessory and the Map of Balacruf. When you regain control, go to Linar's house to find Raine and learn that you have to head to the Belacruf Mausoleum on an island to the east. Exit town, walking east of the House of Salvation and crossing the bridge. Check around for a Strike Ring in a chest before entering the Mausoleum.

Balacruf Mausoleum

Go right when you enter to see a save point; come back here and unlock it when you can. For now, ascend the stairs across from where you came in and maneuver around the spikes on the next floor by standing near them, waiting until they retract, and then running across before they come up again. Keep an eye out for the unlit torches and light them as you go to reveal some clues about a puzzle you'll be tackling soon, paying close attention to the order of the colors. Eventually you'll find a block that you can push; push it to the lower level and over the square space in the floor to block the wind. Now go back to the save point and light the nearby torch. Next, go up the hall with the spike-crushers in it to find a door with unlit torches flanking it. Light them to unlock the door, but don't go through just yet. Instead, go downstairs to find some treasure chests and a devices that makes your Sorcerer's Ring shoot gusts of wind. Now head into the room to the north for the aforementioned puzzle.

The windmills here must be manipulated in a particular order to unlock treasures and the way to this dungeon's boss. To gain an EX Gem Lv2, use your Sorcerer's Ring to activate the windmills in this order: Red, Green, Yellow, White, and Blue. Check the northern door to reset the windmills afterward. For a Blue Ribbon, use this sequence: Blue, Red, Yellow, White, Green. And finally, to reach the boss, use this sequence: Red, Yellow, Green, White, Blue. Make sure you're fully healed and your TP is maxed out before heading in for the fight (and save your game as well).

Boss: Iapyx

A party consisting of Lloyd, Colette, Kratos, and Raine is good for this battle. Let Raine be your primary healer, with Kratos backing her up when he's not attacking. Colette should be casting Angel Feathers and Lloyd should be pulling off combos in conjunction with Tetra Slash and the like. Push Iapyx back to the wall and attack relentlessly. When Iapyx is near the ground, use the Sonic Sword Rain tech, but use Tempest if he's flying about.

After the battle, heal yourself completely again. Why, you ask? Because just before you reach the save point on your way out of the temple, you'll be attacked by the assassin Sheena again.

Boss: Resolute Assassin

Sheena's got a Guardian-Lightning along with her, but you'll want to take her down first. Turn off Genis's lightning-based spells, then go to town on the Assassin. You won't need Colette for this fight, so let Genis cast his most damaging spells. Once you've taken Sheena out, the Guardian-Lightning will fall fast, especially if you use Genis's water-based spells. It also has a very low defense rating, making physical attacks against it very effective.

Luin

Time recruit Sheena! Return to the last House of Salvation and head north this time. The town is located on an island in the middle of a lake. After the scene that occurs upon your arrival, head up and left to find Sheena. Recruit her, then take the upper-left bridge out of town. Your next destination is the Asgard Human Ranch to the northeast, but you may want to return to Asgard first to buy her some new, better equipment. After that, head to the Ranch northeast of Asgard.

Asgard Human Ranch

A scene will play out upon your arrival. After that, go up and right and look between the boxes for a Beast Hide. With that in hand, enter the ranch for a scene with the Desian general Kvar. Check around for chests containing a White Robe and an Iron Bracelet, and make sure to pick up the Memory Gem from an enemy before heading out of the Ranch. Yes, you have to leave for now, but you'll be back in a bit.

Swing into Luin for a brief scene telling you to head to the town of Hima, located to the southwest. Now would also be an opportune time to head back to the Ossa Trail and fight the Sword Dancer mentioned earlier. Defeating him earns you the Yata Mirror and the right to fight him again later in the game for even better items. In any case, when you're ready to move forward, head west of Luin, cross the bridge and following the trail until it stops, then go south to Hima.

Hima

Go to the Inn to save your game, then check out the room to the right of the save point and examine the steaming pot. You'll find the Wonder Chef, who passes on his recipe for Risotto. Go right of the Inn and buy new equipment for your team there, and speak to the woman on the stairs for a little scene. After that, take the path behind the house for a scene, after which you'll have the Desian Orb. You've done all you can here, so return to the Asgard Human Ranch.

Asgard Human Ranch, Part 2

Back at the ranch (ha ha ha) you'll be dividing your teammates into two groups. Lloyd will head the group taking on General Kvar, so choose your comrades wisely. An ideal group would include Lloyd, Raine (for healing), and whoever is your second most powerful character. Make sure your other group isn't lacking, though, as they'll be off on their own little escapade, too! Once your groups are set, take the northern exit and open the treasure chests along that route. Check the terminal to shut off the EX Sphere creation process, then head back to the conveyor belt you couldn't pass earlier via the door to the south. Use the nearby device to make your Sorcerer's Ring shoot fire, then blast the six pillars in the room with it to shut off the conveyor. Now head up to the northwest door, opening the chest for an EX Gem Lv2 before heading through. Save your game with the Memory Gem you acquired from the soldier earlier, then try to use the warp point.

Now the second group. Start by heading back to the courtyard and killing the guard there. Next, enter the hall to the right and push the blocks aside to allow passage to and from the guard control station. Enter, then go west and north to find a room with a Card of Earth perfect for Sheena if she's in this group. Check out the floor switch and activate it, then exit to the west to free the prisoners. Exit west again, grab the Stun Charm from the next room, activate that switch, then go to previous room and exit south. Head south and west, defeat the robot in the newly-opened room, hit the switch, then go down and head right at the intersection. Defeat the robot there and hit that switch to revert to Lloyd's group again. Save your game, then take the warp point to General Kvar.

Boss: Kvar

Kvar's got some Energy Stone drones with him, each with 5,500 HP you'll have to wipe away before you'll be able to tackle Kvar on his own. To do so safely, attack one at a time, staying as far away from the enemies as you can between attacks, when you'll be healing. After you've taken care of the Energy Stones, move on to Kvar and start laying in with the combos. If you have a mage in the group, be sure to shut off their lightning magic. Kvar will follow up his attacks with a Lightning Strike, so be sure to step back whenever he gets a hit in to avoid the second one. He has only 10,000 HP, so even with three characters instead of four, he'll go down pretty fast.

Watch the cut scenes following the battle, after which you'll be in Asgard again. Speak to Harley in his workshop (south of Linar's house) for the Figurine Book, then leave town and head back to Hima.

Hima, Part 2

Walk toward the Inn and a scene will take over, after which you'll pick up the key to the Tower of Mana. That's it for now, so leave town and head across the bridge in front of Luin. Make your way to the right of the mountains ahead of you to find the Tower of Mana, then head on in.

Tower of Mana

Again you'll have to form two groups; add either Raine or Kraitos to Lloyd and Colette's party and be on your way. Ascend the spiral staircase and be sure to take out the second enemy up for a Memory Gem. Keep going until you're in a room with a red curtain, and burn it with your Sorcerer's Ring. Push the box into the middle of the room to split the light beam and make it strike the orb on the right to unlock the door on the left side of the room. Go out and check the panel below the save point to switch to your other party.

Your second group's second light puzzle should end up looking like this.
Your second group's second light puzzle should end up looking like this.

Take Team 2 through the door and burn the left curtain to let in the light, then push the box in its path to bring light to the orb. Follow the light to the door and go through to reach a much harder mirror puzzle. Here's how to solve it: First, burn the curtain and push the lower-right block up one space to make the light reflect on one of the three beacons in the room. Go past the newly-lit beacon and push the block that's one space above it left twice and down until it's between the two other beacons. Now push the bottom left block up to where that last box began, one space above the first beacon. Next push the other block (the one you haven't moved yet) two spaces left of that last block (the one that's one space above the first beacon) to make the light reflect down into the box between the two other beacons. Go north now, snatch up all the treasure, then head through the doors to the spiral staircase. Climb it and follow the path until the two groups are reunited, then warp to the top of the tower for a boss fight.

Boss: Iubaris

You'll want to avoid using Compound Unison attacks in this battle; instead, have Lloyd use techs like Sword Rain or Tiger Blade while Colette uses Holy Song. As usual, let Raine heal while Kratos is alternately healing and attacking. If you have some Dark Brass or Dark Quartz, use it on Lloyd's weapon to make it more effective against Iubaris's 16,800 HP, and if Genis is in the group, all of his spells will hit for high amounts of damage.

Before you leave the Tower of Mana, examine the bookshelves in the first room for Boltzman's Book, which will assist in the curing of Pietro and Clara by stating that you'll need a Unicorn's horn. Watch the scene that plays out after you exit, then start heading to Laky Umacy. It's located to the southeast of the tower.

Lake Umacy

You'll be spending virtually no time here. Just watch the scene to learn that you'll need to hike back to the Thoda Geyser. Cross back over Hakonesia Peak to the Thoda Dock to get there.

Thoda Geyser, Part 2

Return to where you fought the Adulocia last time you were here, stepping into the warp point for a scene. You'll be facing a new boss afterward!

Boss: Undine

Unfortunately, this isn't the kind, magic-granting Undine from Secret of Mana. Nevertheless, she's not all that difficult to bring down. Obviously you'll want to cut off any water spells your mages are wielding. Watch Undine closely when she starts to cast a spell, then quickly pull off a Sonic Sword Blast; you might just cut the spell off before it's cast! As usual, bring along both Raine and Kratos for double healing duties, and bring Sheena as well for her physical prowess. You'll need to chip off 18,000 HP to best Undine.

Sheena can now summon Undine in battle. That's all for the Thoda Geyser, so head back to Lake Umacy (although you may want to buy some of those rare Melange Gels from the salesman by the geyser before you do).

Lake Umacy, Part 2

Not only will you have your Unicorn Horn after this, but Raine will learn the Resurrection Spell as well.

That's it for the lake. You now have the option of tackling two more summon spirits which you'll have to get to sooner or later. It's better to take them on now, though, so you may as well make that your next task. The first spirit, Efreet, can be found in the Triet Ruins, but before you head there you'll want to swing by Dirk's House near the Iselia Forest first. He'll give you an EX Gem Lv3 which lets you buy new stuff from the Katz Exploration crew. When you're ready, head back to the Triet Ruins, but bring along plenty of Life Bottles.

Triet Ruins, Part 2

Return to the Seal room to find Efreet. Get ready to fight!

Boss: Efreet

Both of Efreet's magic Techs, Explosion and Eruption, are quite deadly, so you'll want to guard against both of them whenever he decides to whip them out. Use your previous boss battle's team (Lloyd, Sheena, Kratos, and Raine) so that you have two healers working at all times and two attackers that can be dealing constant combos. He'll have 18,000 HP, but if you decide to wait until after you've been to Tethe'alla, he'll have 30,000 HP, so it's best just to take care of him now.

The other spirit, Slyph, can be found at the Balacruf Mausoleum, so go there now.
