Outset Island

The Telescope

When the game's opening cut scenes have laid out the backstory for you, you'll gain control of the young Link as he wakes to the sound of his sister Aryll's voice, telling him their grandmother is looking for him. Drop down out of the outlook you were napping in and make your way to your house, which is located at the northwest corner of Outset Island. Head inside, then climb the ladder to speak to your grandmother and receive your green tunic. Now return to the outlook and speak to Aryll. She'll hand over your birthday present, the Telescope, which you can use to scout areas from afar. Map it to one of the Gamecube controller's buttons, then look around into the sky. A cut scene will show a girl being dropped from the sky by a giant, unfriendly-looking bird.

The Hero's Sword

You need to find that girl, but you're going to need some sort of protection first. Head to the house with the man calling out to you from the second floor, then go inside. Climb to the second level to find Sturgeon, whose walls are littered with helpful tips. Learn what you can, then head downstairs and speak to the swordmaster Orca. He'll give you some training before passing you the Hero's Sword, your first weapon.

Tetra

Cross the bridge to the other side of the island, and follow the path to some diminutive trees blocking the way ahead. Chop them down with your brand new Hero's Sword, then head over the bridge and enter the cave beyond it. You'll be in a small forest area with lots of grass, so be sure to cut it down in your search for Rupees. Climb the hill on the right, then drop down and head through the hollowed-out tree to find a red Rupee. Kill the Bokoblin (lock onto him with L before striking), then leap from the tree stump to the upper ledge. Pass the large stone, then head up the fallen tree to reach a clearing where the girl, Tetra, awaits. The introduction is short, however, because your sister is mistaken for Tetra and kidnapped by that giant bird in her stead! It turns out Tetra and her crew are pirates, and one of her crew members, Quill, reveals that the giant bird took Aryll to the Forsaken Fortress.

The Hero's Shield

Before you leave Outset Island, you're going to need some protection. No self-respecting adventurer would embark on a rescue mission without a sturdy shield, and there just so happens to be one back at your house. Head there to discover it missing, but a quick chat with your grandmother will find it safely in your hands soon enough. The shield strapped firmly to your forearm, speak to Tetra to set off onto the wild, wild sea.

Aboard the Pirate Ship

Talk to any of the pirates you wish aboard the ship, then head through the door to explore the cabin. Head down the steps, try rolling into the walls to knocks some Rupees out of the pots, and continue down to the bottom to train your rope-swinging prowess with the scrappy Niko. Successfully complete the training by hitting the buttons as displayed onscreen and swinging across the platforms to obtain the Spoils Bag, which lets you carry various trinkets you'll collect by defeating enemies. Before you head back to the deck, break open the barrels for more Rupees! You'll find Tetra on top of the crow's nest, so climb up there to join her as the Forsaken Fortress comes into view. Their plan to get you inside is pretty simple: you + catapult. You'll lose your sword on the way, though, so you're going to have to retrieve that at some point!

Forsaken Fortress

Time for your first major dungeon (and this one's plenty confusing for a first dungeon). Head up the steps from where you land to where the yellow spotlights are shining. Grab the nearby barrel and walk through the area with the barrel over you, stopping when a spotlight comes sweeping past. Carefully make your way to the exit to the east, and head through. The best way to explore the fortress is to first get captured by one of the Moblin guards, so head right or left from the room into one of them to get tossed in a cell at the southern end of the Forsaken Fortress. Don't worry--getting out is a piece of cake. Just get on top of the table, jump to the shelf with the pot sitting on it, smash it, then crawl through the tunnel that was hidden behind it. You'll pop out by a chest containing this dungeon's Map, which is quite a handy thing to have. Drop to the area below you, then step on the switch behind the barrels to open the cell door. Take the Heart Piece from inside, then head into the proceeding corridor to get caught again.

Break out as you did before, but this time head through the left door and climb the ramp on the left side to reach the search light towers. Ascend the ladder, then smash the pot at the rear to gain the attention of the guard operating the spotlight. Take one of the sticks from the broken pot and smack the guard around until he's dead. This eliminates one of the spotlights below. Head back down now and go through the door on the left to reach a room with a chest to the right. Open it for the dungeon's Compass, then swing across on the rope to the door on the other side. Head through, then climb the ladder up all the way to get outside again. Go left, climb the right ladder, and kill the guard there to take down that search light. Return to the passage below you and head through the left door, then swing across on the rope to the door on the opposite side. Head through it, then go left and shove the block over the edge so that you can jump back up here later in case you fall.

Climb down the wall, then push the crate beneath the ladder so you can reach it and climb up. Go through the east gate, turn left, grab the barrel, then use it to sneak past the guards when they aren't looking your way. Proceed into the following passageway, sneak past the guard, then step into the next room. Sneak to the right in this room, then climb over the bed to reach the chest, which contains a yellow Rupee. Head up the ladders on the beds to reach the upper level, dodging the watcher statue's lasers as you rush through the southern door. Proceed until you reach an opening to the right, then ascend the high ladder there. Kill the guard there to shut off the last spotlight, then descend the ladder and return to the room with the laser-shooting statue. Swing across on the rope, then head through the door there and run through the hallway to the room beyond. Use the barrel to sneak past the two guards here, staying to the right and avoiding the annoying rats who'll gladly give away your position. Head up the stairs quietly, then head through the exit up there. Continue up the next set of stairs, but note that there's still a guard here who can capture you. Use the barrel to sneak past him, then head up the left side and around the corner to reach safety.

Sidestep along the narrow ledge on the wall, continue on the path, sidestep over the next ledge, and you'll see a welcome sight: your sword! It's lying on the ground by a guard, but now is not the time for stealth. Run right up to it, grab it, then use it to take down the guard with the moves Orca taught you. When he's down, enter the Fortress tower to find Aryll. You don't exactly rescue here, however, because that giant bird swoops in, picks you up, and carries you to the vile Ganon, who orders you to be thrown into the ocean.

King of Red Lions

You'll be rescued from the chilly waters by a talking boat named the King of Red Lions, who fills you in on Ganon's identity and says that he knows how he can be defeated. Your first task, though, is to find a sail for him in the town on Windfall Island, which is where you drifted from the Forsaken Fortress.

Windfall Island

The Sail and the Picto Box

Hopefully you've amassed at least 80 Rupees by now (and if not, then you're one of those gamers who just don't care). Take them to the merchant with the stall beneath the wooden staircase and purchase the Sail. But don't head back to the KoRL just yet; first head up the hill from the entrance to the town to the stone building in the northwest area of the island. Open the wooden door there to find a man/thing named Tingle, who's locked away in a prison cell. Step on the nearby switch to let him out, then head into his cell. Pull the crate aside to find a secret passage behind it, then crawl through the mini-maze to the end (avoiding the wooden floor sections) to find the Picto Box. The camera in hand, return to the ship and equip the Sail to set out on the open sea.

Sail to the east of Windfall Island toward the tall spire of rock jutting up into the sky. This is Dragon Roost Island.

Dragon Roost Island

The Wind Waker

Once you dock, the KoRL will present you with the Wind Waker (though how it does this without arms or appendages of any sort is left to the imagination). The Wind Waker can be manipulated to construct simple melodies with the C-Stick, with different melodies having different effects on your surroundings. You'll learn more about this later, but stick it in the back of your mind for now.

Wind's Requiem

You need to scale Dragon Roost Island, and you're going to need explosives to get through the rocks blocking the way up. Luckily, bomb flowers are native to the island; these plants grow bombs that you can pluck and use to detonate whatever you wish. Head up the path, sidestep on the narrow ledge above the broken bridge, and blow up the boulder under the two moss-covered blocks. Drop down, pull the bottom block out to form some crude steps for future use, then head through the opening under the broken bridge and swim to the little island to find a song engraved in the stone there (UP, LEFT, RIGHT). Play it on your Wind Waker to learn Wind's Requiem, which allows you to change the direction of the wind.

Medli

Now head up the block steps you made and head through the hole in the mountain to meet a Rito, one of the birdmen who inhabit this island. Head up the path, then enter the Rito Cave to speak to the chief about the trouble the Ritos are having with the dragon, Valoo. The Rito young need a scale from him to fully grow their wings, but Valoo has grown angry and won't let anyone approach him. You'll get the Delivery Bag after this conversation, so take it upstairs to meet with the attendant-in-training Medli. She'll give you her Father's Letter, which you should take the chief's son, Komali, on the bottom floor. Play the mail sorting game if you want, and when you're ready, go through the guarded tunnel on the first floor.

You need to toss Medli to the doorway on the other side of the chasm, and you have to do it with the wind at your back. Watch the burning embers to see which way the wind is blowing, then hurl her across when it's blowing in the proper direction. You'll get the Empty Bottle for your trouble, so head to the spring and fill it with water for now. Climb up the broken bridge and pour the water on a baby bomb flower so that it grows to full size. Pluck a bomb, then chuck it at the boulder over the railing to blow it up and allow the water to pour into this area. Swim to the other side and climb up to reach Medli again. Throw some bombs at the pots the two statues are holding in order to cross the little river of lava, then head on into Dragon Roost Cavern.

Dragon Roost Cavern

To reach the inner cavern, you first need to pull the guardian statues out of the way: pull the left statue away from the wall, then the second blue statue to the left. Head in, kill the two guards there, then pick up one of their sticks and light it at the burning torch. Use it to light the other torches in the room to make a chest containing a Small Key appear. Use it on the locked door here and enter the next room, which holds a huge lake of fiery lava. Smash through the boards with your sword, go left, then jump to the platform and pull the block out of the wall. Use it to climb on top, then leap to the other side of the walkway and head over the rope bridge. When you reach the bomb flowers, pluck one and set it off on the big rock ahead of you to clear a path to the door. Head into the next room, where more lava prevents you from proceeding.

Grab one of the pots filled with water and chuck it into the lava to cool and harden a small patch of it. Toss another pot to the left so that you can reach the treasure chest there, which contains the Dungeon Map. Get back on solid ground before the platforms melt again, then throw more water pots in to get over the lava to the left. Open the rock gate on the other side, then head to the left barricade to find a guard charging at you. Kill him, take his sword, then use it to break the second barricade before heading through. Use it again further down the path to open the room off to the side, which holds a chest containing a Small Key. Now exit to the north to get back to the lava lake. Let loose a spin attack to set off the two bomb flowers growing on the left wall and blow up the big chunk of rock next to them. Jump up to the walkway, then unlock the western door with a Small Key and go through. Keep going straight, kill the enemies in the room, then light the stick there at the torch and use it to burn down the wooden barricade. Now step on the switch. The door will open, allowing you passage outside.

Cross the rope bridge, then ascend the ladder while dodging the jets of fire. Sidle along the wall, head around the boulder, then grab onto the wooden ledge to get across the pit. Head up the steps on the right next, grab a bomb flower, then use it to blow up the rock in your way so you can drop down and get back into the volcano. Approach the blocks, then pull out the right block, and then the middle one. Head up the steps, go left, then pull the block out of the wall so you can reach the chest above, which contains the Compass. Now take a stick from the pot, light it, then hurl it over the pit so that it burns down the wooden barricade beyond it. Get onto that ledge, then open the chest there for a Small Key, which will unlock the door back outside. Head up the steps, then kill the Kargorok (the giant bird) to your left so you can grab the Small Key from its nest, as well as a Golden Feather. Unlock the next door to get back inside the volcano.

This room is very dark, so take a stick and light it so you can see where you're going. Head to the center area of this section of the map, light the torch there, then take the Joy Pendant from the chest near there. Burn down the barricade, then continue southwest, lighting the two torches to unlock the door and pass through. You'll see a cauldron stoppered by a big rock in this room, so let a bomb explode near it to gain access to the pot (you can use it to return to the dungeon's entrance and back at your leisure). Head over the rope bridge now and into the room where you'll be ambushed by three enemies. Now take a stick and light the torch in the west corner to make a chest containing the Treasure Chart #39 appear. Now head through the door and enter the room far to the south. Make a path through the lava with the water pots, and be sure to make a platform in the bubbling area of lava so that you may be carried out of the room. Leap off this platform when you reach the walkway on the third floor, then head through the door to a chamber where the door to the boss's lair is located. You can reach it just yet though, so toss a bomb at the rock ahead of you to free up the cauldron beneath it. Chuck another bomb at the other explodable rock to find an exit outside.

The Grappling Hook

Ascend the right stairway, running fast, as the stairs will collapse beneath you. At the gate, kill the two guards, and then the Moblin that's dropped off afterward. He'll drop an orb, which you should promptly smash to find a Skull Necklace. Speak to Medli now to learn more about Valoo; it seems something is pulling his tail, and that's what's making him so angry. You'll also receive the Grappling Hook, which lets you swing over pits, as well as steal items from monsters. Get on top of the platform to the east, equip the Grappling Hook, then fire it at the pipe Medli's standing on. Swing across, do the same for the next pit, then break through the barricade with your sword before dropping down. Go left, swinging across to a cave that lets you back inside. Head to the other side of this area on the bridge, killing the two guards to make a chest appear on the bottom level. Set a stick on fire, then burn through the ropes holding the bridge up. Walk into the middle of the bridge and it will drop you on the floor below, allowing you to get the Pendant out of the chest.

Now leave to the west to find a cage and a platform beneath it. Stand on the platform, then perform a powered up spin attack to cut the ropes around you to be lowered to the floor below. Head over the platforms and up the ladder to a locked gate, and a metal hook nearby. Shoot the Grappling Hook at the metal hook to pull it, thereby opening the gate. Swing to the platform and head through this door. Grapple to the target, change direction, they swing to the east to more platforms. Head over them and swing over the lat pit to reach the exit. Don't bother stepping on the switch here; instead, hit the Magtail bug when it opens its mouth so that it rolls up, then pick it up and drop it onto the switch. The flames around the treasure chest here will lower, allowing you to obtain the Big Key from within. Return to the room with the door to the boss's lair in it on the third floor, then swing across to the upper part of the room. Open the chests for some Rupees and a Knight's Crest, and check the pots for fairies that can heal you, if you're hurt (and pack one in your Bottle for added protection). Now unlock the door to the boss's chamber and enter.

BOSS: Gohma
When the battle begins, immediately switch into first-person mode and fire your grappling hook at the dragon's tail flailing through the ceiling. Swing across and let go, and a chunk of rock will break loose, falling onto Gohma to damage it. Repeat this twice more, and then switch tactics: fire the Grappling Hook at Gohma's eye to reach it quickly, then give it a nice few swipes with your sword to kill it.

You'll gain a Heart Container afterwards, which boosts your total health by one. Exit the dungeon, and you'll be thanked heartily by the Ritos, and even be presented with the first pearl, Din's Pearl. When the cut scene ends, head back to the King of Red Lions and hop aboard. Sail south, using Wind's Requiem to get the wind pointing you in the right direction. You're going to be sailing far, far to the south, to Forest Haven. NOTE: You can give some fish food to the talking fish if you want island charts to add to your world map.

Forest Haven

When you land, check the mailbox for a Heart Piece, then head up the path, killing the hungry Boko Baba plants in your way. Head up to the plateau above the waterfalls, then grapple across the pit to the top of the small mesa. Head right now, jumping to the next mesa, then right again, climbing up and leaping over the pit. Swing to the upper portion of the river now, walking through the calmer waters to the cave, which you should enter. Keep moving upstream and up the smaller waterfalls to find a floating leaf. Watch the cut scene when you climb aboard, then roll into the large tree to knock down all the slimy ChuChus. Kill them all, and the Deku Tree will speak to you. He will give you the next pearl as soon as the Koroks of the forest complete their ceremony. They cannot, however, because the Korok Makar as disappeared in the Forbidden Woods. You must go rescue him!

Deku Leaf

Walk to the nearby flower bud, leap into the flower, then aim at the next flower in the distance. You will be blasted as if from a cannon! Keep being shot from flower to flower, climbing up to the branch when you reach it and grappling to the next flower bud. Keep going up to find the Deku Leaf, then use it to float to the plateau with the grass arrow on it below. Leave the cave here and walk out onto the cliff side. Use the Wind's Requiem to make the wind blow southwest, then jump off the cliff, floating to the small island with the Deku Leaf. When you land, make the wind blow northwest, and when the twister is to your right, jump off and float to it, using it to boost yourself high into the air. Float to the Forbidden Woods and enter.

Forbidden Woods

Three paths lie ahead of you. Head down the right path first to find the Dungeon Map, then go down the left to take the large seed. Take it to the center door and chuck it at the vine a few times to destroy it. Head through the door it was blocking to reach a large open room where you can see all the way up to the third floor. For the moment, though, drop to the bottom floor, kill the enemies down there, light the stick at the torch, then burn the vine blocking the way to the western chest. Take the Knight's Crest from the chest, then use the flower buds and Deku Leaf to float to the top of the aging tree, and then the tallest pillar. Float across to the platform, then pluck a bomb from the nearby bomb flower to destroy the vine blocking the door. Head through to the next room, where you'll see several stationary windmill gears. Send some wind toward the closest one on the left with your Deku Leaf to get it spinning, then get on the platform and use the Deku Leaf to make it move. Toward the center of the gap, turn and send some wind at the windmill gear to get that one spinning as well. When you reach the far side, head into the next room.

Knock the airborne enemies here out of the sky with the Deku Leaf, then finish them off with a few good stabs. Kill the Boko Babas to the north, take the stick, and use the buds to reach the third floor of this area. Chuck the stick at the vine blocking the door, and if it doesn't destroy it, head back down, collect another, and try it again until the vine dies. Go through the door to a small room with a seed, protected by vines. Blow it somewhere you can reach with the Deku Leaf, then use it to kill the vine before exiting to the hollowed-out trunk of the tree. Grapple to the bar on your right, swing across to the moving platform, then ride the next one to a locked door. Take the nearby seed, jump to the center platform to the west one, destroy the vine with the seed, then head through the door there. Jump down the pit in the following hallway. Morth creatures will cover your body, so do a spin attack to knock them away. Open the chest for a yellow Rupee, then exit via the door to the west.

Head along the outer edge of this room as best you can to reach the bomb to the left, grab it, then use it to blast open the wooden barrier. Open the chest behind it for a Compass, then throw another bomb at the barricade beyond the vines to destroy it. Make your way through the vine maze to it, then open the chest there for a Small Key. Jump into the bud to get on top of the pillar with a pot on it, then to the highest pillar for a Joy Pendant. Leave now, returning to the locked door on the core of the tree. Use the Small Key to pass through to a room filled with water. Send some wind at the Peahat with the Deku Leaf to make it drop, then send more wind at the windmill gear to bring the platform over. Head over the lake on the platform, then go through the door on the other side. Launch up to the upper tree branches, then grapple to the branch above. Climb up to it, then grapple to the next branch and swing to the platform. Ride the moving platforms up, then head through the door to the north to face a mini-boss.

MINI-BOSS: Mothula
Use the Deku Leaf to send gusts of wind at Mothula, knocking it to the ground so you can slash at it with your Hero's Sword. Spin attack if you get covered in burs, and when Mothula loses its wings, close in for the kill, striking it repeatedly until it's dead.

The Boomerang

Open the chest to the northwest now to claim the Boomerang, and equip it at once. Take aim at the switches over the locked gate, lock on to both of them simultaneously, and let loose. The Boomerang will hit the switches and unlock the gate, so leave, then chuck the Boomerang at the vines growing over the door to clear them out. Head through, chop down the hanging vines with your Boomerang, then sail across on the Deku Leaf to a chest containing a Joy Pendant. Head through the door, then jump across to the flower. Lock onto the vines suspending the flower with your Boomerang, then let it loose to cut them all in half. You'll drop to the bottom floor. Head through the door, leap over the platforms to the right, then exit to the next room. Stand on the suspended flower here, chop down the vines with your Boomerang as you did before, and when you land, pluck a bomb from the bomb flower to take down the barricade.

Go through the door beyond it, then jump over the stumps to the top one, where you need to launch up using the flower bud. Send a gust of wind at the nearby gear with the Deku Leaf to call the platform, then ride it to the ledge. Take the bomb there, then jump back to the platform and chuck the bomb into the hole in the tree stump. Now jump down and crawl through the hole in the stump to find a treasure chest containing Treasure Chart #15. Return to the stream, then cut the vines holding the flower above you with your Boomerang. Get on the flower, push it forward with some air from the Deku Tree, and keep moving it until you reach the far shore. Head through the door, then up the path. Stand on the stump, then lock onto the switch to the right of the tall tree. Moving clockwise, lock onto all the other switches in view, then release the Boomerang to open the gate below you. Open the chest inside to claim the Big Key, then return to the stump. Grapple to the door to the east and float the rest of the way on the Deku Leaf. Return to the circular room at the center of the Forbidden Woods and stand on the platform with a small flower. Use the Deku Leaf on the windmill gear to create a whirlwind above the larger flower at the center, then launch there with the flower bud to float up to the second floor. Destroy the vines blocking the exit with your Boomerang, head through, kill the butterflies for a chest containing a Joy Pendant, then head through the next door. Check the seeds for items (and enemies!), light up a stick to torch the lid on the cauldron, then head through the door to face the boss of the Forbidden Woods.

BOSS: Kalle Demos
Targeting those vines in the previous room will prove valuable practice for this boss. Target five of the blue arms suspending the boss from the ceiling, and let your Boomerang slam into each of them. Dodge the vines that attack you, and then repeat the Boomerang-chucking process until you've chopped through all the arms. Kalle Demos will open up now, revealing a new target for your Boomerang. Chuck it at the core, or, if you have sufficient healing capacity, just run up to it and slash at it repeatedly with the Hero's Sword. Either way, when the boss closes up, you need to wait for the process to start over until it opens up again to finish the job.

Doing so sets Makar free, allowing you to grab the Heart Container and step into the whirlwind to exit the dungeon. You'll be back before the Deku Tree, who gives you Farore's Pearl for your chivalry. Return now to the King of Red Lions, hop aboard, and use the Wind Waker to set the winds for a northwest course. Greatfish Isle, where the third Pearl is located, is more in a west-northwest direction than directly northwest, but if you use your map you should reach it without too much trouble.

Greatfish Isle

You'll find the island torn apart and besieged by a storm. The Rito Quill will show up to tell you that the Water Spirit who lived here, Jabun, has left, and sealed himself in a cave on Outset Island. Quill also tells you that the Pirates might know something about the cave, and that they were last seen on Windfall Island. Before you leave though, head up the spiral island with the tree spirit on top of it, and use the Wind Waker to make the wind blow northwest. Fly northwest with the Deku Leaf, then turn right through the opening in the rock to find a treasure chest containing a Heart Piece. That's all you can do here for now, so get back in the boat and set sail for Windfall Island to the northeast.

Return to Windfall Island

The pirate ship is docked here, but you won't be able to get in without the password. Head to the nearby Bomb Shop and shimmy across the narrow ledge at the left side of the building to the rear. Climb the vines growing there and crawl through the hole to hear the password, then leave and return to the pirate ship, stopping by the mailbox on the way to get a letter from Orca.

The Bombs

Enter the password at the door on deck, then step inside. Descend the stairs and complete Niko's timed rope challenge for 30 Bombs, then leave the ship. Stop by the mailbox again for Beedle's Map, then head to the top of the cliff by the Bomb Shop. Speak to the dancing Tott there to learn the Song of Passing (RIGHT, LEFT, DOWN) for your Wind Waker, which changes night to day and back again. Now return to the King of Red Lions, make the wind blow in a southerly direction, and sail back to Outset Island.

Return to Outset Island

The Large Wallet

Stop by your grandmother's house first to discover that she doesn't recognize you, then swing by Sturgeon and Orca's for some advice. Climb the mountain on the island to find that the bridge is out; just make the wind blow west, get on the rock platform, then float across with the Deku Leaf. Proceed through the forest to the rock, then lay a Bomb down and let it explode. Drop down into the hole to receive the Large Wallet, which lets you carry more Rupees than before. Capture one of the fairies here in your bottle, then return to your grandmother and let it out to cure her Alzheimer's...er, restore her memory. She'll brew you some Soup, which, when used, restores your health and makes you stronger when your Heart Power is full.

Lord Jabun

Get back in the King of Red Lions to get trapped in a whirlpool. Equip your Bombs and fire your cannon at the three pieces of the large blue gate. When it's open, sail inside to meet Lord Jabun, who gives you Nayru's Pearl! You must now take the three Pearls you've collected to the three Triangle Islands (North, East, and South) in order to reach the Tower of the Gods. They're marked on your map, so head to the closest one, South Triangle Island, by shifting the wind northeast.

The Triangle Islands

South Triangle Island

Sail up to the island, land, and place Nayru's Pearl on the statue there. Now continue to East Triangle Island to the northeast.

East Triangle Island

Place Farore's Pearl on the statue here, then speak to the salvage crew for Treasure Chart #34. That map is for this island, so sail to the spot marked on the map, lower your salvage crane, and bring up a chest containing a silver Rupee, i.e. 200 Rupees! Now make the wind blow northwest and sail to North Triangle Island.

North Triangle Island

Place Din's Pearl here, then watch the cut scene as the Tower of the Gods rises from the water in the center of the Triangle Islands. The King of Red Lions explains that you must survive the trails within the Tower in order to obtain the power to destroy Ganon, so screw up your courage and sail inside.

Tower of the Gods

This place is huge. Sail to the northeast corner of the chamber, hop out, then swim to the sealed door. When the water level rises, climb up, take hold of one of the statues, then drop it on the shiny area by the door to open it. Head inside, drop into the pit with the two boxes, grab a box, then drop (don't throw it!) it on the shining spot there to create a bridge. Head up the ladder and cross the bridge when the water level drops, then take the chess piece at the end of the room across the bridge and out of the room. Head left and place the piece on the cross-shaped hole in the floor to open the gate in the water to the east. Hop in your boat and sail through to a locked door; just place the two nearby statues on the shining spots to open it. In the next room, arrange the boxes so that they're in a straight line, then take a Deku stick from a pot and light it as the water level begins to rise. Cross the bridge of boxes and light the two torches to make a chest containing a Small Key appear. Take it, then sail to the west part of the Tower.

There, equip your Bombs and blast away the three wall panels before swimming to the walkway. Take a stick there, then light the two torches at the bottom of the stairs to make a chest containing a Joy Pendant appear. Now unlock the door on the bottom floor with the Small Key and go through. Kill all the ChuChus here (use the Boomerang on the electric ones) to make some steps appear, so ascend them, take the statue outside, climb the stairs to the left, and fit the statue in the indentation in the floor. Head through the northwest door to a room with a large eye in it, take down the flying burning skull via the Deku Leaf and Hero's Sword, then open the chest for the Compass. Now return to the KoRL and sail to the southeast corner. When the water level drops, enter the cage there and open the door. Use your Bombs to destroy the wall panels here, take the Dungeon Map from the nook behind the middle one, then push the right crate closer to the wall. Use it to blow up the final panel, then check the pots for a Joy Pendant.

Leave the room and sail to the center of the tower and through the door previously blocked by a waterfall. Destroy the laser turret here with a Bomb and kill the rats with your Boomerang, then place the statues on the shiny areas of the floor. Stand on the third spot to switch on the nearby lifts, then ride them up to the next floor. Head through the door, then exit to the east. Cross to the other side of this room on the levitating platform, then proceed through the door there. Cross the shining platform to the stone tablet at the other end and Link will summon the statue so that it follows him. Lead it over the walkway to solid ground, pick it up, then leap over the pit and exit the room. Carry the statue to the elevator and ride it to the door with a red Triforce on it. Head through, and the statue will hop into its proper place. A stone tablet will then appear; read it to learn the Command Melody (LEFT, CENTER, RIGHT, CENTER), which lets you control various creatures and objects.

Head through the door to the west, kill the flying fire skulls, then use the grappling point across the room to swing over to the exit. Go through this door, then grapple over the gap to the opposite side. Summon the statue in front of the pedestal there, then go to the glowing switch and use the Command Melody to control the statue. Have it cross the bridge before hitting START or R to switch control back to Link. Grapple back across the gap, grab the statue, then leave the room and set it on the glowing switch to unlock the door off to the side. Use your Grappling Hook to hang from the bar here, turn so that you're facing south, then swing to the now-unlocked door and go through.

The Hero's Bow

Kill the Darknut knight in this room by slashing his back (hit the A button when prompted while standing in front of him to get behind him). When he's dead, you'll receive the Hero's Bow, which means you can finally start shooting arrows! Leave the room, fire an arrow into the eye on the wall, kill the flying fire skulls, then grapple across to where you left the statue sitting. Grab it, then leap over the platforms, setting it down long enough to kill the Armos statue (hit it with an arrow, then go around back and slash at the crystal in the rear). Take the statue out of the room so that it activates a pillar there and opens the locked door to the north. Head through, kill the bats in the next room, then drop to the platform on the right. Go through the east door into the next room, which contains more of those annoying flying fire skulls. Shoot 'em down, then fire an arrow into the eye when you're on the moving platform. Open the chest here for a Small Key, then turn to the south and fire an arrow in the eye on the opposite wall.

Leap to the platform on your right and ride it up so you can jump to the platform on the left. When you see the platform with the eye switch, ride it across the room, and fire another arrow at the eye by the door to make a treasure chest containing a Joy Pendant appear below you. Exit this room, then descend the ladder to the left platform. Chuck a Bomb at the wall panel nearby, then head through the door it was hiding. Stand on the Wind Waker crest on the floor in here and play the Wind's Requiem to make a chest containing another Treasure Chart, as well as bring the two Armos Knights to life. Chuck Bombs into the Armos Knights' mouths to kill them, then return to the room with two platforms. Head up the ladder, grab a statue, then drop it onto the platform below. Do this with a second statue to make the other platform rise, then leap to the north exit, which you can now unlock with the Small Key. Head through, then get on top of the block in the center of the room. Jump to one of the statues on the side, then float over the laser barrier with the Deku Leaf. Stand before the statue here and summon it with the R button. Perform the Command Melody to control the statue, then have it walk through the barrier to the switch to shut it off. Switch back to Link, pick up the statue, and leave the room. Set it down, shoot down the Wizrobe with some arrows, then place it on the right platform. Place three other statues on the left platform, then leap over, take the idol statue, and bring it to the door with the shining emblem on it. The idol statues should react to create a portal; enter it to reach the upper level.

In the circular chamber, chuck Bombs at the Beamos turrets to destroy them, then set the two clay statues on the switches. Stand on the third to shut off the laser barrier, then open the chest it was guarding for the Big Key. Kill the two statues that spring to life, then head through the door to the north. Head up the stairs, and destroy the red Beamos at the top to obtain a fairy for your bottle. Now enter the door to face the boss of the Tower.

BOSS: Gohdan
Gohdan consists of two disembodied hands floating around the room trying to grab and smash you, and a head with eyes that change color. Start off by targeting the eyes in the palms of the two hands and firing arrows into them until they're destroyed. This will cause the head's eyes to turn red, which is your cue to fire arrows into them. When you've taken out both eyes, the head will drop and its mouth will open. Chuck a bomb into the mouth to cause some real damage to the boss. You have to repeat this process twice more, also dodging the beams Gohdan sends your way (just run directly away, then turn and run to the side to avoid being struck). When you've thrown three bombs into Gohdan's mouth, it will go down for good.

Take the Heart Container and enter the light to warp to the top of the tower. Climb up to the bell, then hit it with your Grappling Hook to let it ring. This causes a ring of light to appear in the ocean, leaving you no other option but to sail down into it.

Hyrule Castle

The Master Sword

You'll arrive at Hyrule Castle, frozen in time and draped in gray. Head forward to the symbol of the Triforce by the statue, then pull the left block back until it's aligned with the symbol on the floor. Pull the other two blocks here and do the same, aligning them until you've recreated the Triforce with the blocks. They'll then sink into the floor, opening the path ahead beneath the statue. Descend the stairs and take the Master Sword from the Triforce symbol on the floor, then head upstairs. You'll notice that things have changed: the guards are alive! You have to kill every last one of them; once that happens, the barrier will dissipate and you can leave the castle. Get back in the King of Red Lions and sail to the glowing spot in the water to return to the world you knew. With the Master Sword in your hands, Ganon won't stand a chance! Set sail for the Forsaken Fortress in the northwestern corner of the world.

Return to the Forsaken Fortress

Sail to the Fortress's large wooden gate, blast through it with your Bombs, then sail inside, dodging the cannon fire all the while. Head up the stairs toward the gate and you'll engage in battle with Phantom Ganon.

MINI-BOSS: Phantom Ganon
Lock on to Phantom Ganon, and when he fires his blasts of energy at you, slash out with your sword to deflect them back at him. Whenever you manage to hit Ganon with the energy, rush over to him and slash repeatedly with your sword until he disappears. Quickly turn around and slash again, as he'll often reappear behind you (but sometimes not). Repeat this twice more and Phantom Ganon will be no more.

The Hammer

The gates, once locked, will now unseal, and a treasure chest containing the Hammer will appear. Test it out on the Miniblins that appear, and when you've satisfied your urge to crush, head to the southeastern steps and break through the barrier there. Head up the stairs and follow the path south until you can go left through a door. Kill the guard for a Joy Pendant, then head through the door on the other side of the room. Go left and head up the path to reach the second spotlight. Kill the guard operating it and go north to the northwest room. Float over the gap with the Deku Leaf and head through the door below the guardian statue. Head up the path, shimmying across the narrow ledges, then hammer the switch to open the gate. Head through to find Arryl and Tetra. The pirates show up to rescue them, leaving you to deal with the giant bird, the Helmaroc King.

BOSS: Helmaroc King
The first part of this battle involves running up the staircase at full speed, stopping for no reason whatsoever. At the top, whack the Helmaroc with your Hammer to knock it out of your way. It will then take to the air, and when it swoops down to attack you, dodge its beak and smack it again with the Hammer. Keep using the Hammer to break the Helmaroc's face mask, then switch to the Master Sword and start slashing it with that. Continue cutting it until it's dead.

Grab the Heart Piece, then head up the path and through the door to meet the evil Ganondorf himself. Ganondorf tries to kill you, but Tetra rushes into to your aid. Ganondorf recognizes her as Princess Zelda, but before more can be said, you are whisked out of the tower by the Ritos as Valoo burns it down and takes down to Hyrule Castle beneath the sea. The King of Red Lions reveals himself as King Daphnes Hyrule, the rightful ruler of the kingdom! He also tells Tetra that she is, in fact, Zelda, a princess in the royal bloodline. In order to kill Ganondorf now, you need to recharge the Master Sword by speaking to the sages at the Wind and Earth Temples. Before you head to the Temples, though, you should gather up some very useful items.

Mother & Child Isles

Ballad of Gales

Your first stop should be the Mother & Child Isles, located just southeast of the Forsaken Fortress. Somewhere around the isles you'll probably see a tall cyclone spinning round. Get caught up in the whirlpool and fire three arrows into the creature high above at the center of the storm, Cyclos. This can be quick difficult, and very frustrating! When you manage to hit Cyclos three times, he will teach you the Ballad of Gales (DOWN, RIGHT, LEFT, UP), which warps you to different areas of the world map when played.

Fire and Ice Arrows

Use the Ballad of Gales immediately and choose to land on the Mother & Child Isles tile of the map (again, southeast of the Forsaken Fortress). You'll be dropped in the middle of one of the isles. Speak to the Great Fairy there and the Fire and Ice Arrows are yours!

Fire Mountain

Play the Ballad of Gales again and warp to Dragon Roost Island. Sail to the island south of it, the lava-spewing Fire Mountain, and get close enough to it to hit it with an arrow. Equip your new Ice Arrows and fire one into the lava at the top of the mountain to freeze all of it.

The Power Bracelets

Quickly climb up the cooled mountain now, and when the path splits, go right to reach the crater at the top. Jump in. Go right, jump over the stone platforms, and kill the bats deftly with your Boomerang before they set you on fire! Kill the Magtails after them with the Hammer, then open the chest that appears for the Power Bracelets, which let you lift heavy objects. Lift up the stone head next to you and drop it, letting it crumble into a thousand glorious pieces. Head through the opening, kill more bats, then walk into the light to leave the mountain before the timer expires. Your next destination is Ice Ring Isle, located three map tiles to the south and one to the west (just west of Forest Haven).

Ice Ring Isle

Equip your Bombs post haste to take out the cannon ship guarding the island, then sail close to the island. Shoot a Fire Arrow at the dragon's head to stop the frost breath from blowing out of it. You now have five minutes to complete this task, so move quickly!

The Iron Boots

Ascend the steps on the west side of the island, then head around the lake's edge to the chunks of ice floating in the water. Jump across them and then drop through the hole there. Go right, slide down the ramp, then kill the bats with your Boomerang. Head down the next slide to find a chest containing the Iron Boots, which give you extra traction and weight. Equip them, then walk down the windy passage to the hole, and drop through. You can unfreeze all the enemies here with Fire Arrows and kill them to make a chest containing an orange Rupee appear; otherwise just enter the light to go back outside. Go to the east side of the island now and unfreeze the chest there with a Fire Arrow. Open it for Treasure Chart #36. Now get back in the boat and play the Ballad of Gales, warping this time to Outset Island. Sail directly east of it to reach Headstone Island.

Headstone Island

Land on the island, then use the Power Bracelets to lift the stone head out of your way. Step into the cave beyond, then use the Wind Waker to play the melody inscribed in the stone (DOWN, DOWN, CENTER, RIGHT, LEFT, CENTER) to learn the Earth God's Lyric. You'll meet a member of the ancient race of the Zora, but you can't get any further without first retrieving Medli.

Retrieving Medli

Go to Dragon Roost Island and head up the path by the mailbox to the Rito cave. Enter, climb to the second floor, then go through the door by the mailroom. Go right, grapple over the pit, then find Medli on the cliff off to the left. Lock onto her, then play the Earth God's Lyric with the Wind Waker. Back on the boat with Medli, return to Headstone Island, head inside, and stand before the stone seal. Play the Earth God's Lyric again so that Medli plays along with you and the way forward will be opened. Drop into the hole there to enter the Earth Temple.

Earth Temple

To start this humungous dungeon off, grab Medli and chuck her over the pit to the door on the other side, then float over to her and go through with her in tow. Kill the guards in here, then carry Medli upstairs and jump at the pillar ahead. With Link standing on the switch, play the Command Melody to control Medli. Have her fly to the second pillar and stand on the switch there to open the door, then have her drop back down to where Link is. Switch control back to Link, grab Medli again, then head through the door you opened. You can kill the ChuChus in this room easily by leading them into the beam of light; this turns them to stone, making them excellent targets for your Hammer. Set fire to the warp cauldron lid here, then play the Command Melody again. Move Medli into the light and have her shine it at the faded treasure chest to make it solid. Grab the Dungeon Map from it, then head into the next room with her, but don't run into the fog here! Instead, use Medli to shine light into it to clear it away, making a path to the switch for Link, or just use Link's Deku Leaf to cut through it. Either way, smack the switch with your Hammer to open the door to the south, then head through it to reach the crypt.

Kill the Bubble Skulls here, then head up the ladder to the east and pull out the block so that light can shine through. Use Medli to shine this light at the fading chest to solidify it, then open it with Link to find a Small Key. Quickly kill the black hand that appears before it can steal Medli, then return to the large room and unlock the door to the north. Shoot a Fire Arrow at the curtain to the west to bring some light into the room, then lure the ChuChus into it to turn them to stone. Smash them to pieces afterward, then stand on a switch and command Medli to stand on the other. This will create some stairs to the east, and trigger the appearance of more ChuChus. Kill them as you did before, leaving one uncrushed in its stone form. Place the petrified ChuChu on the switch Link was standing on, leaving Medli where she is, then head up the stars and push the block over the edge. Return to Medli, grab her, then toss her from the steps to the right toward the exit. Climb up the block to follow her, then head into the next room.

Kill the black hand in the next room, then push the block in the center of the room into the slot to open the window above. Have Medli shine the light at the statue on the switch to make it disappear, then at the spiral symbols on the walls to reveal a warp cauldron and a block. Pull the block around the corner to the end of its track to open the exit. Push the last block to the southeast all the way to the wall to make a chest appear on a ledge to the east. Open the chest for the Compass, then exit to the south. Kill the Moblins and Poes in the next room (hit the Poes with light before you attack them, or just let them possess you), then control Medli, ordering her to fly to the balcony above. Have her shine some light at the statues to the east to open up a niche, then send Link there to grab a Joy Pendant from the chest. Head up the southern stairs, break the skulls for some hearts, then leave to the east. In this circular room, drop down, then lure the zombies out of the caskets and kill them to obtain another Small Key.

The Mirror Shield

Return to the previous room now and open the southern door to enter a room where you'll have to face three Stalfos skeletons. When you've knocked them to pieces, quickly destroy the skulls to prevent them from reforming. Head up the stairs after finishing them off, then open the chest for the Mirror Shield. Now you can reflect light by yourself without Medli's help! Stand in the light here and use the shield to refract the light onto the symbol above the door before heading out. Now pick up Medli and head to the center of the room. Kill the foes there, then command Medli to fly up to the light beam. Have her reflect it to the center of the room, then switch to Link and have him use the Mirror Shield to reflect it on the spiral symbol on the wall to open a passage. Send Medli there to stand in the light, and have Link refract the light around the corner onto the symbol on the wall. Take the Rupees behind it, then exit to the west.

Float down to the floor, then have both Link and Medli shine light into the eyes of the sun idol there to open up a passage downstairs. Descend the steps to the first level of the basement (B1). Kill the skulls guarding the bridge here, then stand in front of the stone seal with Medli and play the Earth God's Lyric. You can now proceed through the door. Use light to stun the zombies in the next room before killing them, shine it on the statues to destroy them, and then shine some on the southeast mirror to destroy the statue there. Leave via the western door, then take the Small Key from the chest at the north wall. Kill all the black hands here and another chest containing a Treasure Chart will appear. Take it, then leave the room and head east to the next room. Blast through the poisonous fog here with the Deku Leaf, run past the black hands (or stun them with the Boomerang), and Hammer the switch to open the skylight above. Push the mirror into the light so that the beam shines into the next room.

Gale Island

Back-to-back dungeons? Yes indeed. And this one's no cake walk either. Start out by strapping on your Iron Boots, because Gale Isle is, obviously, a windy place. You wouldn't be able to walk to the entrance to the cave without them. Whip out your Hammer and smash the stone head causing all this wind, then step inside and examine the stone seal there. Play the song inscribed on it (UP, UP, DOWN, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT) to learn the Wind God's Aria. You'll need someone else to open up the dungeon, someone who can play the violin...Makar!

Retrieving Makar

Warp to Forest Haven, then head to the spot by the two waterfalls to see some musical notes floating out from behind them. Grapple over to the waterfall on the right and head inside to find Makar. Speak to him, then target him and perform the Wind God's Aria to get him to join you. Now return to Gale Isle and play the Wind God's Aria before the seal to open the way into the Wind Temple.

Wind Temple

Grab Makar and head through the first door. Kill the enemies in here, then play the Command Melody to take control of Makar. Have him drop down and stand on the two patches of dirt, then press the A button to plant a seed that grows into a tree. Plant a seed in each patch to make a chest containing an orange Rupee appear. Next fly Makar to the north side of the room and have him step on the switch there to shut off the wind. Have Link open the chest now, then climb on the trampoline while wearing the Iron Boots to push them down. Remove the boots and you'll be rocketed up into the air, allowing you time to use the Deku Leaf to float to where Makar is waiting. Pick him up now and head through the door. Destroy the statues in the next room, then send use the Deku Leaf to send a gust of air at the device in the middle of the room to open the center divider. Take Makar to the north end of the room, then command him to plant seeds in the twin patches of dirt to open the door ahead. Head through with Makar, then command him to fly to plateaus of rock, where three patches of dirt are located. Have him plant a seed in each one to open the door. The black handed Floor Masters will grab Makar now, taking him to the next room.

Send Link through the opened door to reach the ventilation shaft. Kill the enemies in here, where Makar is currently imprisoned. Forget about him for the moment and head east, taking down the Armos Knights and exiting through the east door. Chuck your Boomerang at the flying foes here, then run past the moving blade. Smash through the covered square with your Iron Boots to drop to the area below, kill the Floor Master there, then use the Deku Leaf to open the room divider as you did before. Head past it, then flip it back from the other side. Stand on the trampoline, equip the Iron Boots, then unequip them to launch yourself to the upper level. Flip the divider once more, then open the treasure chest for a Joy Pendant. Take the southern exit now, then float on the updraft with the Deku Leaf to reach the ledge on the left. Step on the switch there to raise the grate, then float over to its platform. Leap to the plateau on the left and cut one of the grass patches to find some magic energy, then float to the southeast area through the grate to find the Dungeon Map in a chest there. Check for more magic energy in the grass, then float to the updraft. Turn left, land on the plateau, head down the corridor to the west, and land on the grate platform. Now float to the exit, after you've cleared the airspace of bad guys.

Head through the door and step on the switch, strapping on your Iron Boots to open the floor of the ventilator shaft. Destroy the lid of the nearby warp cauldron, then drop down and float with the Deku Leaf to the platform to the west with the chest containing the Compass on it. Continue to the bottom floor, and equip the Iron Boots again while standing on the floor panel to drop another level. Kill the ChuChus here, then push the trampoline block beneath the hole you just dropped through. Push the other block next to the trampoline so you can reach it. Equip the Boots on the trampoline, then launch yourself up, floating over the spikes to reach a chest containing a Small Key. The spikes in this room will also lower, so head upstairs and break through the panel there to rouse the statues below you. Kill the Floor Masters that emerge, then go back up and destroy the next floor tile to awaken the Armos statues, and the next two to summon ChuChus. This will trigger the appearance of a chest containing Treasure Chart #35.

The Hookshot

Leave the room now and unlock the north door with the Small Key. Head into the next room and destroy the Wizrobe with Fire Arrows. Open the chest that appears afterward to obtain the Hookshot. Use it immediately by shooting at the target in this room and hitting the switch to open the door out. Exit to the ventilation room, then hookshot over the platforms until you reach the one opposite a nook with an open chest. Float across to it, then use the trampoline to launch up and float to the next platform. Hookshot to the top platform, then hookshot to the target at the opening in the wall. Slip into your Iron Boots now and hookshot to the stone head blocking the entrance to destroy it and find a chest containing a Joy Pendant, and Makar! Command him to fly to the western opening, then have Link climb down and hookshot over to him. Pick up Makar and return to the room where he was abducted to learn that you can now hookshot to the trees he plants. Hookshot to the top platform, the command Makar to fly up there to meet you. Pick him up and leave the room. Kill all of the skulls in the next room, then command Makar to fly to the platforms, planting seeds in all the dirt patches (just be sure to keep him away from the Floor Master on the top platform). Now have Link hookshot his way to the top, kill the Floor Master, then grab Makar and leave through the door to the southeast.

Here, set Makar down on one of the switches, then stand on the other one to open the floor below. Drop down there, then stand on the switch beneath the propeller to lower a pillar. Get on top of it, then ride it up, then command Makar to fly up a level so he can plant some seeds in the dirt patches to the west. The propeller will switch on and lift you to the top of the room. Float off with the Deku Leaf to the door to the east on the first floor, then command Makar to fly here so you can both leave via the door. In the next room, command Makar to fly over the divider and have him wait by the stone seal. Switch back to Link, then have him drop down into the hole to flip the divider horizontally. Now head east and flip it back, then use the trampoline/boots to launch to the seal. Perform the Wind God's Aria now to open the way to the next room. There, kill the Darknut knights, then open the chest for the Big Key.

Leave the room now and head west in the previous room, exiting west to the propeller room. Float up, open the chest to the east for a Joy Pendant, then float to the south plateu and head through the door alone. Shoot the Amos statues here with arrows to destroy them all, then head through the opened gate to the south to find a chest containing a Small Key. Go back to the propeller room and descend to its lowest level. Command Makar to fly down here to join you, then unlock the door to the east and head through. Kill the Wizrobes and Stalfos here, then hookshot to the platforms on the wall to the top. Activate the switch here and go through the east door. Kill the enemies in this room, then go east and command Makar to fly over the funnels of wind and plant a seed in the patch of dirt. This will stop the wind, allowing Link to hookshot across and kill the enemies there. Continue through the door to the next room, where vents prevent Makar from flying across. Have Link strap on the Iron Boots and push the crate forward so that it blocks the first two blades, then head around the block and pull the block past them. Shove it into the pit to make a bridge, then shove the other crate over the makeshift bridge to block the next blades. Head around it, then use the third block to trap the first two blades on one side. With the path clear, take Makar to the stone seal to the south. Play the Wind God's Aria to open the way forward. Clear the lid off the warp cauldron, then unlock the door with the Big Key and head through to the boss's lair.

BOSS: Molgera
Molgera can be quite frustrating to defeat, but luckily for you it has some definite patterns you can learn and exploit. Walk up to Molgera to make it open its mouth, then fire the Hookshot at its tongue. Cut it with your sword, then step back, as Molgera will now sic its young at you! Hookshot them to pull them in, then slash them with the sword and kill them while you're waiting for Molgera to appear again. It will burst into the air and try to land on you, but you avoid being crushed by simply rolling. Hookshot its tongue again, and repeat this until Molgera is pushing daisies.

Grab the Heart Container now and walk into the light, where Makar will restore the Master Sword to full power!

The Triforce Shards

You must now gather the eight shards of the Triforce to open the way to Ganon's Castle. Remember the IN-credible Chart Tingle sent you after you completed the Forsaken Fortress, the one that cost 201 Rupees to read? Well, it's time to put that chart to use, as it lists the locations of eight Triforce Shards.

First Shard

Start by heading to the Islet of Steel, located directly south of Greatfish Isle. Cannon bomb the ship guarding the fortress, then head inside and play Wind's Requiem on the wind symbol to reveal a chest containing Triforce Map #1. Head back outside and warp to Tingle Island (northeast of Greatfish Isle), and pay Tingle 398 Rupees to translate it for you. Now warp to Greatfish Isle and use the chart to find the first shard.

Second Shard

You're going to need the deed to the Private Oasis before you can collect the chart for the second Triforce shard, so start off this quest by heading to Windfall Island and speaking to the teacher in the schoolhouse during the day. Leave, then speak to the group of kids who call themselves the Killer Bees. You'll play a game of hide-and-seek now. The first Killer Bee is hiding in the tree near the entrance to town. Roll into the tree to knock him down, then chase after him to catch him. The second child is hiding behind the Bomb Shop, and the third can be found behind the rock on the cliff where the Elvis impersonator hangs out. You'll get a Heart Piece for your troubles, and a Purple Rupee if you go back to speak to the teacher. Speak to the Killer Bees again to learn that the teacher loves Joy Pendants. Give her 20 of them and you'll receive the Cabana Deed, making the Private Oasis your own! Head there (south of the Tower of the Gods) and use the Deed to open the door inside. Fire the Grappling Hook at the bar hanging from the ceiling to extinguish the flames in the hearth, then drop down the hole it was concealing to reach the sewers. Go straight, then right, and another right at the T-junction. Climb down the hole, then crawl through the opening to the right to reach another tunnel. At the next fork, go right, the right again to reach a ladder. Ascend it, hit the two switches here, then proceed down the left path and descend the ladder there. Go through the left opening to find a chest containing an Orange Rupee, then go back and crawl through the other opening. Head up the ladder you reach, Hammer the switch at the top to open the gate to the entrance, then drop down the left hole. Kill the zombies here, then crawl through the tunnel and ascend the stairs to a wind symbol on the floor. Play Wind's Requiem to make a chest containing the Triforce Map #2 appear, then leave. Let Tingle translate it, then head to Gale Island and salvage the second Triforce Shard there.

Third Shard

Buy some Hyoi Pears from Beedle on his boat near Outset Island, then sail to Bird's Peak Rock, which is located northeast of Forest Haven. Climb up the southeast portion of the island, then use the Grappling Hook to haul yourself up to the plateau, just above the locked door. Use Fire Arrows to shoot the Kargororks within firing distance, then place a Hyoi Pear on your head to summon a seagull. Fly to the pillars of rock, hitting the crystal switches while avoiding the Kargoroks until they're all yellow. This will open the gate below. Head through, play the Wind's Requiem on the symbol, then take the Triforce Chart #3 from the chest. Have Tingle translate it, then sail to Stonewatcher Island, located east of the Islet of Steel. Locate the Triforce shard there and haul it up.

Fourth Shard

Obtaining the Fourth Shard is considerably more work than some of the other shards, because it involves the phases of the moon. Start out by sailing to Diamond Steppe Isle, located northwest of Outset Island. Hookshot from your boat to the lowest palm tree to scale the cliff, then drop into the hole there. Jump into the warp cauldron and you'll be taken to the second area of this shipwreck. Kill the Floor Master here, then light a Deku Stick and use it to burn off the lid of the cauldron located directly next to the one you arrived in. Jump in to reach the next area. When you pop up in the next area, burn the lid of the cauldron to the right, then jump in that one. Now take the cauldron located kitty corner from the one you arrived in to reach a chest containing the Ghost Ship Chart, which says which island you can find the Ghost Ship at, depending on the phase of the moon. In case you haven't discovered them on your map yet, the seven islands on the map are, starting from the moon-shaped one at the top and going clockwise: Crescent Moon Island (east of Gale Island), Diamond Steppe Island, Bomb Island (west of Bird's Peak Rock), Spectacle Island (west of Windfall Island), Five-Star Isles (southeast of Forest Haven), Star Belt Archipelago (east of Fire Mountain), and Greatfish Isle. Sail to whichever island corresponds to the moon's current phase, then sail toward the Ghost Ship to enter it. Kill all the enemies within to obtain the Triforce Chart #4. Have Tingle translate it, then warp to Outset Island and dredge up the fourth shard.

Fifth Shard

Much easier to find than the previous one! Needle Rock Isle is located west-southwest from the Islet of Steel, and northwest of that are several gunboats patrolling the waters. Sail there and destroy the golden boat, quickly using your crane to pull up the treasure chest that was onboard. You'll get the Triforce Chart #5. Head to the Cliff Plateau Isles east of Forest Haven and pull up the fifth Triforce shard.

Sixth Shard

Go to Outset Island, then climb up the mountain path and stand on the boulder overlooking the town. Make the wind blow west, then float to the cliff with stone head using the Deku Leaf. Lift it and toss it aside, then drop down the hole it was sitting on. This is the Savage Labyrinth, which has 50 floors (though you only need to descend 30 of them). You need to kill all the enemies on a floor before you drop down the hole to the next one. You can leave after completing 10 floors, but this would be pointless, so don't do it. When you reach the 30th floor, play the Wind's Requiem on the wind symbol to make a chest containing the Triforce Map #6 appear. If you want a Heart Piece, use the Mirror Shield to reflect some light at the elephant statue to make it dissolve, then fight through the next 20 floors for it. Either way, head to Tingle and have him translate the map for 398 Rupees, then warp to South Fairy Island. Sail north to South Triangle Island and locate the sixth shard.

Seventh Shard

Sail west now to Stonewatcher Island, then toss the stone head on the island aside to find the entrance to a cave. Enter and proceed through the rooms, killing all the enemies on your way to a room with two knights. Kill them, then head through the unlocked door. Play the Wind's Requiem on the floor symbol, then open the chest for the Triforce Chart #7. Let Tingle translate it for another 398 Rupees, then head to the Seven-Star Isles, located north of Dragon Roost Mountain. Located the Triforce shard and haul it up.

Eighth Shard

Now sail east of the Seven-Star Isles to Overlook Island at the far northeast corner of the map. Sail to the pillar of rock with a palm tree growing on top of it, then hookshot to it. Hookshot to the ChuChu, kill it, then continue to the last cliff. Drop down in the hole there, then fight your way through the rooms, killing all the enemies until you reach the end. Stand on the floor symbol, play the Wind's Requiem, then open the chest for the Triforce Map #8. Have it translated by Tingle for another 398 Rupees, then head to Two-Eye Reef, which is south of South Fairy Island, and haul up the final shard of the Triforce!

Ganon's Castle

The final confrontation with Ganon draws nigh! Sail to the Tower of the Gods and enter the portal to the castle beneath the sea. Head down the stairs, kill the two Darknut knights, then go back upstairs. After the barrier goes down, head outside, where Link will use the Master Sword to destroy the barrier encasing the castle. Head down the path to the broken bridge, then hookshot across and enter the cave. Head to the central platform, then cross the rope bridge on the left. Head through the door. Shoot the skull on the grappling bar to the right with your Bow & Arrows, then grapple there and climb up. Use the Deku Leaf now to float to the final platform in the lava, then grapple up again, climbing up before floating to the exit, where you'll have to face Gohma again in a sort of flashback.

MINI-BOSS: Gohma
Just defeat him as you did the first time: grapple onto the dragon's tail and swing across to break Gohma's shell, then grapple to Gohma's eye and slash it with your sword, repeating this until it is defeated and you're reverted to the entrance hall.

Now head over the second bridge from the left. Use the Deku Leaf to blow air into the device on the left, then ride the platform across to the "tongue" vines. Blow some air at the windmill gear to the left to summon the second platform, then ride that across to the next "tongue" vine. Keep jumping to the last vine, then float to the exit with the Deku Leaf. Head through to face another boss you've previously vanquished, Kalle Demos.

MINI-BOSS: Kalle Demos
Once again, nothing's changed since the first time you faced Kalle Demos. Use your Boomerang to cut its tentacles from the roof, then repeatedly cut into its core with the Master Sword to kill it.

You'll return to the entrance hall once again, so cross the northeast ladder to the next room. Head past the first hallway to find a beam of light and a switch. Draw a purple ChuChu into the light to petrify it, drop it on the switch, then sprint to the staircase and climb it to another switch and light beam. Kill the Stalfos at the end of the corridor, lure the ChuChus toward the switch, then rush to the beam of light and reflect it onto them to petrify the lot of them. Dash to the switch, drop a stone ChuChu on it, then rush back to the stairway. Head through the door at the top to face Molgera the giant Poe again.

MINI-BOSS: Jalhalla
As before, stun him with the Mirror Shield, then grab him and chuck him into the spiked pillars to break him up into smaller Poes. Charge up your spin attack and release it when the Poes are all around you. When all the Poes are dead, you'll return to the entrance hall.

Now cross the rightmost bridge and head through the door. Kill the Wizrobe here with a Fire Arrow, then use the spring and Iron Boots to launch into the air. Float with the Deku leaf past the spikes to the second spring, then repeat the process to reach the far side of the room. Hookshoot to the target above you to reach the last of the old bosses, Molgera.

MINI-BOSS: Molgera
Hookshot Molgera's tongue when it opens it's mouth so you can slash at it with the Master Sword, then hookshot its offspring and kill them as you wait for Molgera to reappear. Continue slashing at its tongue until it's dead and you're back in the entrance hall.

The door across the middle bridge has been opened, so head through and climb the stairs to the door at the top. Exit there to find three doors. Go through the one on the right first, then watch the order of the chandeliers as the camera zooms in on them. Leave the room and head through the opposite door, which has four crystal switches. Use your Boomerang to strike them in the order the chandeliers were zoomed in on in the other room to make the King of Red Lions appear. You can use him to return to the surface to collect more items, if you feel like it. Otherwise, return to the chandelier room and read what's written on the stone tablet on the left. Now leap into the darkness to face the Phantom Ganon again. Like before, swing your sword when his blasts of energy come near you to knock them back at him, then run up to him and cut him with the Master Sword. When P.G. splits up into multiple copies of itself, keep slashing at them until you find the real one. Repeat this simple process until you have defeated him.

The Light Arrows

His sword will now fall and point to the exit you should take. Fight through the Phantoms, following their fallen swords to the final room, where a chest containing the Light Arrows appears. Take them, then head out the now-unlocked door to face one final Phantom. Kill it with a single Light Arrow, then grab its sword and use it to break the brick wall barring the way ahead. Head up the stairs to the top, where you can break a pot for a fairy to clean up. Now go through the large gate to face the first form of Ganon.

BOSS: Puppet Ganon
Puppet Ganon takes three forms, all of which are suspended by marionette's strings from above. For the first form, chuck your Boomerang at the strings until only the red one remains. Now fire a Light Arrow at the blue ball at the end of Ganon's tail to damage him. Hit him there twice more and he'll take on his second, spiderlike shape. He'll follow you around and try to crush you, which is your signal to roll behind him and fire three more Light Arrows into the blue orb at his back until he takes on his third form, which resembles a caterpillar. Fire a Light Arrow into the orb and Ganon will start bouncing around the room. Stay out of his way until he calms down, then hit him twice more to end the battle.

Ganon's true form awaits you at the top of the tower, so climb the red rope to the top and fire your grappling hook at the bar above you. Pull yourself up, then cross the overhead beams, breaking the pots if you need health or magic replenishment. Grapple to the area above this one, pull yourself up to the next platform, then collect a fairy from one of the pots up there. Set off a bomb at the warp cauldron lid, just in case, then hookshot to the red balcony. Take a deep breath, then step through to face Ganon for the last time.

FINAL BOSS: Ganondorf
You'll have Zelda helping you with this fight, and she'll be absolutely key in bringing about Ganondorf's defeat. Lure Ganon between yourself and Zelda, then target him and dodge his attacks until Zelda fires some Light Arrows into him. This will stun him briefly, giving you time to slash at him with the Master Sword. When you've struck him enough times, Ganondorf will knock Zelda unconscious. Continue targeting him and dodging his attacks, and when you can, roll behind him and slash at his back. Zelda will eventually come to her senses, and when this happens, step away from Ganon. The idea here is to ricochet the Light Arrows Zelda is firing at you onto Ganondorf with the Mirror Shield. When you hit him with an arrow, rush forward to slash repeatedly with the Master Sword. Back off again, and repeat this a few more times until Ganondorf falls.

You have just beat the final challenge of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker! All you have left to do is to watch the game's closing cut scenes and end credits.
