Who am I
The simple answer is that I'm a gamer. I've been hooked ever since playing Robotron and Defender on the Atari. Be it MUDs, pen and paper rpgs, larps, card games, board games, table top miniture games, or video games, I enjoy them all.
I've also been known as BaronPwent which is the handle I use over at Gamespot - BaronPwent
I'm a WoW veteran and have been known to frequent the Alleria server as Nawkagar.
Favorites
I tough to really narrow down my single favorite game. There have been so many great games released over the years, its hard to even narrow it down by genre without forgetting a few. Yet, I'll give it a shot.
RPG
RPG's are probably my favorite genre. The depth of immersion, length of gameplay, and narrative elements all provide for extrodinary value. Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior are two games that really got me hooked on the RPG genre. D&D and a love of both fantasy and sci-fi literature probably helped too.

Action RPGs
It might seem an odd distinction to make to some, but I tend to place heavy destinctions when it comes to game genres. These are games that blend the line and mix aspects of the two genres in near equal proportion.

Disappointments
We all have games that we dislike or found disappointing, so here are some games that get a lot of my hate and animosity.
Metal Gear Solid 2 (PS2)
2 hours of game. 8 hours of text and cutscenes. MGS2 is by far one of the most over hyped games ever. If I ever hear of the La-li-lu-le-lo again, it will be too soon. Not to mention Liquid Snake living on as a severed arm....its simply beyond words...the story just seems to take a major u-turn down acid-induced conspiracy theory lane...simply ridiculous. I could tolerate Raiden, but in addition to all the other insanity, it is just far too much.
I was a big fan of the Metal Gear series, right up until this game. It killed the entire series for me.
Final Fantasy 12 (PS2)
A combat system that actually takes control away from the player and automates the entire process? I'm sorry if you enjoyed it but that is one of the worst design moves you could ever make for a video game. Its meant to be an interactive experience. Guiding a group of characters around and watching them fight is just boring. FF12 is one of only two games that has put me to sleep in the middle of the afternoon due to complete and total boredom. Even being able to automate the final boss fight was tragically disappointing.
The Final Fantasy series will always be one of my favorites, but after playing 12 (or more accurately have 12 play itself while I watched), I'm not really eager to ever play another FF.
Devil May Cry 4 (Xbox 360)
DMC4 does nothing for the series. It doesn't further develop the character of Dante or his lineage. All it does is throw in a bunch of new characters who are only vaguely developed. The new main character Nero is left mostly unexplained and underdeveloped. The game screams of recycled and rehashed design. Fighting most of the bosses 3 times in a single game is rather excessive. Even in the Megaman series you only have to fight the bosses twice. Running through the levels twice also speaks to an artificially elongated game duration. Not to mention yet another set of melee combat gauntlets. How many times can we rename the same weapon? Ifrit, Beowulf, and now Gilgamesh...can we get some new weapon designers please?
Highly Anticipating

- Gears of War 2 (Xbox 360)
