This page is a list of terms and abbreviations used in World of Warcraft.

Bonus damage. It usually refers to bonus spell damage.

+Heal

Bonus healing. A bonus to healing spells that comes from equipment.

Adds

Mobs that attack a player when he/she is already in combat with another mob.

Addon

An additional modification to the WoW client that adds new functionality.

Away from keyboard

Aggro

The state of being targeted by an enemy.

Damage over time, a spell that does damage spread out over 10 to 30 seconds.

DPS

Damage per second, the about of damage a character or spell can do in one second. Also a character who's role in a group is to do damage.

Elite

The top picture shows an elite, the lower a non-elite.
The top picture shows an elite, the lower a non-elite.

Short for "Elite Mob" is an enemy that is more difficult than normal. They can be recognized by a gold dragon emblem around their picture when targeted. They are usually defeated by groups of players.

Game master, an administrator of the game. Can also mean Guild Master, the leader of a guild.

To attack a single enemy out of a group, without engaging the rest of the group

Energy meter used by Warriors and Druids in bear form

A group between 6 and 40 people

Resurrection, a spell used to bring a character back to life

Threat is a rating used to determine aggro. The player with the most threat has aggro.

Threat Meter

An addon that creates a visual indicator on screen of each party/raid member's current threat.

Voidwalker, a Warlock pet.

Wipe

When the entire party dies.
