Positioned between the starting zones of Durotar and Mulgore, the Barrens is filled with quests and possibilities for adventure.
The Barrens is an important travel region. It borders seven different areas; both Alliance and Horde are found on its roads.

This neutral city is controlled by the goblins of the Steamwheedle Cartel. It is connected to its sister city of Booty Bay via a boat that leaves from the dock every few minutes.
Ratchet is a popular Alliance staging area for raids on the Crossroads or Camp Taurajo. Large numbers of Alliance standing around Ratchet usually mean a raid is imminent.
