Karazahn Boss This article is about a boss in the World of Warcraft raid instance Karazhan.

The Curator is very much a gear check that separates the first half of Karazhan from the second. It requires a fair amount of coordination and effort particularly from your healers.

Strategy

The curator will alternate between his first two phases until he gets to 15% at which he will go into phase 3. Your MT should engage the curator in the middle of the hallway while the remainder of the raid spreads out in a semi-circle.

Phase 1

During phase 1, the curator will routinely summon an astral flare at the cost of 10% of his mana. This flare needs to be killed immediately. DPS should be focused entirely on the sparks and ignore the curator. The flare's will use an arcane chain lightning that will hit up to 3 people. Throughout this phase, the curator will also be casting hateful bolts at the player with the second highest threat against him. These will hit for 4000-6000 arcane damage. It is important to have a bolt soaker to avoid having these cast at your healers. The bolt soaker essentially is nothing more than a player with high health that can hold high threat. A warlock casting searing pain works very well for this.

Phase 2

Once the curator is out of mana, he enters phase 2 during which he will cast evocation. While evocating, the curator will not be damaging anyone. Its important to take down any remaining astral flare and move quickly to attacking the curator himself. While evocating, the curator suffers from a debuff that increases damage taken by 200%. Players should unload on the curator during this time since the phase won't last long. Once at full mana, the curator returns to phase 1.

Priests can regain their mana easily during this phase by using their shadow fiend. The 200% increase in damage is a major increase to shadow fiend damage which results in large mana gains. Shadow priests should beware using shadow word: death during evocation. The backlash from a 200% damage increase can kill you, especially on a crit.

Phase 3

At 15% health, the curator will enrage. He will cease summoning astral flares and simply try to melee the raid to dealth. He will continue to cast hateful bolts. At this point, just burn him down.
