Entrance
The Coilfang Reservior instances are located in the center of Serpent Lake, in Zangarmarsh. To get there, swim to the large structure in the center of the lake. At the center of that structure, swim down to the large column of bubbles coming from the underwater tube. Swim into the tube. Don’t worry about your breath, it will renew itself halfway through the tube. At the end of the tube, you’ll come to a pool. At the shore of the pool you’ll find the meeting stone, and Watcher Jhung.
Instance
The first mobs you’ll encounter in this instance are underbats and underbog lurkers. The bats have a knockdown attack that robs tanks of aggro. The lurkers hit hard and have a lot of hit points.
Fight your way to the lake, then bear right to the ramp, up the ramp and across the bridge.
At the far end of the bridge is Hungerfen (“2” on the map) who looks like a large bog lord. He has a huge number of hit points so be prepared for a long fight. His most deadly offensive capability involves planting mushrooms. These mushrooms grow and, in a few seconds, explode for massive AoE damage. All the players in your group must be aware of what is around them and be ready to run away from any mushroom before it finishes growing. When Hungerfen is low on hitpoins he drops fungal spores, which not only does AoE damage, but uses that damage to heal himself. He turns just before he uses this spell, so when he does run away. When he’s done, come back and hit him as hard as you can.
On the same platform is the fern needed for the Oh, It’s On! quest. The fern can be gathered by each member in your party that has the quest.
Keep going and you’ll come to a ramp guarded by naga. You’ll be fighting humanoids for a while, so adjust your tactics accordingly. Fight your way up the ramp, and through the hall. At the end of the hall is a chest. Go up the ramp and fight your way to the end of that hall. You’ll see a bridge made up of tubes, leading to a platform with the next boss.
Ghaz’an (“3” on the map) He has poison breath, so unless you’re a tank you don’t want to stand in front of him. He also has a whip tail, so you don’t want to stand directly behind him. The whip tail also has a knockback which could send you off the platform and into the water. If you fall off the platform, there is no way to climb back up, so you’re effectively out of the fight for the duration. Standing to his side or far to his rear are the safest places to be.
After you’ve killed him, you can jump off the platform into the water. On the north side of the pool is a place where you can exit the area and jump down into a hallway. Turn left (uphill). Stay to the left, and you’ll come to a group of bushes. Hidden in the bushes is Earthbinder Rage (“4” on the map), one of the lost members of the Cenarion Expedition that you must find for the Lost in Action quest.
The next group of fen reys has a fear capability.
Swamplord Musel’ek and his pet bear (“5” on the map). Before you engage him, take out the Bog Lord patrol just a bit further on down the hall. Musel’ek is a hunter and has frost trap and multi shot abilities. He also has a knock back attack. When you attack, you become flagged PvP. The bear has high HP but does little damage, having a pet off tank it works well. When the bear is about to die, he turns back into Windcaller claw, the lost druid you need to locate for the Lost in Action quest. Talk to him to complete the quest.
Keep going around and to the left and you’ll find The Black Stalker (“6” on the map), the final boss of the instance. He uses a chain lightning that bounces among the players in range, so it’s important to keep all ranged attackers far away. His most lethal attack is a Static Charge. It is a dot, which cannot be dispelled, and does very heavy damage. Increase your party’s nature resistance as much as you can, especially for your tank. Your tank will end up taking a lot of damage, so sure your healer is first rate. If that weren’t enough, he has a spell attack that lifts characters up in the air and holds there there. Players can still used ranged attacks and spells, but they are often so far up as to be out of range. Should your party’s healer be held in the air, your tank should run underneath him or her to stay within healing range. When the spell is over, the character falls and takes damage.
