Before patch 2.3 this quest ended without resolution after the "Inspecting the Ruins" quest. Several new quests (and an ending to the story) were added in the patch. This chain is also unusual in that some of the quests unlock two new quests.

They Call Him Smiling Jim
- Region: Dustwallow Marsh
- Questgiver: the guard outside the inn in Theramore
This quest is not necessary to the rest of the chain, you can start with "Inspecting the Ruins."
Inspecting the Ruins
- Objective: Speak with Inspector Tarem at th eShady Rest Inn.
- XP: 330
The inn is located on the far west side of Dustwallow, where the road connects with the Barrens. After speaking to the inspector you can pick up three quests from nearby items. Two of these quest start their own quest chains.
Suspicious Hoofprints
- Objectives: Report about the suspicious prints at the Shady Rest Inn to Captain Garran Vimes in Theramore.
- XP: 1650
Lieutenant Paval Reethe
- Objective: Bring Reethe's Badge to Captain Garran Vimes in Theamore.
- XP: 1100
Part 2
- Objective: Return the information about Reethe to Captain Garran Vimes in Theramore.
- XP: 440
The information is held by Adjutant Tesoran, located in the same room.
Daelin's Men
- Objective: Speak to Captain Garran Vimes, located in the same room.
- XP: 390
The Deserters
- Objective: Get information about Reethe from Balos Jacken and the deserters in Dustwallow Marsh.
XP: 3900
Balos Jacken is level 38. He is located inside the tower at Lost Point, on the southeast side of Dustwallow Marsh. Defeat him and he will surrender. Speak to him to complete the quest.
The Deserters
- Objective: Speak with Captain Garran Vimes in Theramore about Reethe.
- XP: 3900
A Grim Connection
- Objective: Report to Captain Darill at North Point.
- XP: 390
This brings up two quests. Both are completed at the Grimtotem camp, northwest of North Point Tower.
Confirming the Suspicion
- Objecive: Bring the Grimtotem Battle Plan to Captain Darill at North Point Tower.
- Reward: 45 silver
- XP: 3900
To aquire the battle plans, you must combine four Grimtotem Notes. These drop off any Grimtotem you kill.
Arms of the Grimtotems
- Objective: Captain Darill at North Point Tower wants you to bring him 7 Blackhoof Armaments.
- Rewards: 45 silver and choice of:
- Glowing Tourmaline Ring (finger, green, +6 stamina, +4 spirit)
- Bone Dirk (dagger, green, 20-37 damage, speed 1.40, 20.4 DPS, +6 agility, +1 stamina)
- Biting Axe (one hand axe, green, 23-43 damage, speed 1.60, 20.6 DPS, +3 strength, +5 agility)
- XP: 3900
Tabetha's Assistance
- Objective: Speak with Tabetha at her farm
Taketha is located at Tabetha's Farm, in the center of the swamp.
- XP: 410
Raze Direhorn Post!
- Objective: Burn the North Tent, East Tent, and the Northeast Tent at Direhorn Post, then return to Tabetha at her farm.
- Reward: 45 silver
- XP: 4150
To get to Direhorn Post, take the path going north from the farm.
In one of the tents you'll find Apothecary Cylla, who drops a letter that starts the quest The Apothecary's Letter.
Justice for the Hyals
- Objective: Speak to Captain Garran Vimes at Foothold Citadel in Theramore.
- XP: 410
Peace at Last
- Objective: Captain Garran Vimes at Foothold Citadel wants you to lay the Wreath at the Hyal Family Monument.
- XP: 5150
- Rewards: 90 silver and choice of:
- Leggings of the Long Road (cloth, legs, green, 45 armor, +12 stamina, +8 intellect)
- Skirmisher's Cover (head, leather, green, 88 armor, +14 agility, +6 stamina)
- Steel-banded Hauberk (chest, mail, green, 227 armor, +11 strength, +10 stamina)
The graveyard is located just outside Theramore.
The Black Shield
- Objective: Bring the Blackened Iron Shield to Captain Garran Vimes in Theramore.
- XP: 825
The Black Shield, Part 2
- Objective: Bring the Blackened Iron Shield to Caz Twosprocket.
- XP: 330
Twosprocket is located in Theramore's blacksmith building.
The Black Shield, Part 3
- Objective: Speak with Captain Garran Vimes in Theramore.
